Would Tier 1 backlinks have any effect with no Tier 2?

    Title.

I was wondering whether or not web 2.0 backlinks, article posts, etc. will have any positive effect on your money site & SEO plans if you didn't further push any links pointing to them?

And is anyone actually getting a lot of traffic from web 2.0's? My previous attempts at them (unique content + readable) weren't very successful in terms of bringing traffic.

I mainly want these links to get me traffic, as offpage SEO isn't a strong priority of mine.

If you want traffic, then you should 'hang-out' where your target market 'hangs-out'. Posting unique content on web 2.0s is not enough. You need to get that content in-front of the right target market.

Go to popular forums on your niche, be the 'go-to-guy', and then place a signature link.

Go to Q&A sites, again, be the 'go-to-guy', and then place a link.

You HAVE to post genuine and helpful posts though. Not just some filler-posts.

For me personally, I only use my tier 1 web2.0s for SEO purposes. I really don't care if I get traffic from it or not because I have other ways that I do to get traffic. Besides SEO

Tier 1's are simply a buffer to perpetuate link juice. Prior to penguin 2.0, you'd want to diversify beyond different 2.0 accounts (multiple authority domains, without a footprint_, and although can't be confirmed yet, is very unlikely that it would become easier to be successful in doing so these days.

That's without taking into consideration of uniqueness\relevancy degradation (high quality of ones money site, and the lesser tier 1) and increasing quantity\decreasing the quality simply due to automation of higher tiers.

The concept isn't traffic referral from you tier 1 let alone investing in additional tiers, it's simply just for link juice\anticipating better SERP's.

Instead of investing your time manually into tier 1's as mentioned above it'd be wiser to provide answers in a more guru manner, than a generic manner from a web 2.0. Target your content in an effective manner either way, 1 web 2.0 tier won't provide that alone, you can get referrals simply from educated and informative response in forums let alone and Answers page.
