Would this be a good way to get some traffic?

Ok, I know you probably heard of this already, but I wanted to get some feedback about my idea I was thinking about.

I was brainstorming of some offline ways to get some traffic to a site I'm thinking of making. A "special" giveaway event thing.

I was going to maybe Make some flyers advertising a giveaway, and then me and my friend wake up around 5AM before anyone is really up in my neighborhood.
We ride our bikes and put all the flyers in their mailboxes.

Just a quick though really. Do you think it would work?

I only need some start up traffic for the site, and with my "special" giveaway, that traffic that comes in, brings in more traffic for me. And the process just repeats.

So, thoughts?

I would say it would definitely generate some traffic to your site.

The more important question is will the traffic convert?

You're going to hit a full range of demographics so I personally, would have a few 'special giveaways' listed on your flyer to target those different demographics.

How are you generating $$$? CPA?

Hey mate, it's definitely a start but from experience I've noticed that flyer drops seem to have a lowish ROI. Could depend on what you are promoting though so give it a shot!

It sounds like a great idea, but to you'll never know how well it will work unless you try. I say go for it! Fill us in on how it went if you do it.

Are you in the US? If so, it's a federal offense to put anything in someone's mailbox. Although I've seen people drop things in mine before or somewhere by the door.

I think it is illegal to put stuff in other's mailboxes if you are in the US. What me and a friend did a few years back, we went around and taped flyers to their doors. We were asking for old computers they didn't use. We got like 5 computers and sold it online and made around $300.

I'm not sure how the law goes in other countries, but you should just tape it on their front doors. You'd have to drop probably hundreds of flyers to get some decent profits though.

We'll i live in the US. And i was just thinking of using this method for a giveaway in the future.

Im gonna try it with a clickbank product to see If i get any hops at least.

The product Im gonna try and promote fits teenagers well, so I might just put the flyers up in the bathrooms or something.

But you're right about the mailbox thing. I'm just gonna tape it to thier mailbox, or front door. After all it's illegal to put it IN thier mailbox, not on.

I do something similar and yes it does work but.. its time and money right? You gotta print that shit and walk around with your friend. The guy I use to do it I have to feed and get stoned.. not cheap right? He is fat.. real fat and no matter how good my pot is he always tells me about some better stuff and how my shit is weak..anyways.. It would be as effective both cost and time to buy adsense.

This thread got me thinking of what can entice a majority of the people your piece will come into contact with. You mentioned wanting to direct them to a clickbank product in the future. Affiliate marketing is a good idea but will have low conversion rates. You can do CPA which has higher conversion rates but doing that is like burning all those houses down. Because you don't want to be running back and fourth constantly placing papers in their mail. You want something a lot of people will want, and people are different so we should provide options.

My suggestion to the strategy is building a mobile website and using the mail pieces to advertise this website, offering a variety of deals that will be long term revenue generators for you.

Get together some money and invest in a text message marketing technology. So that the flyer can advertise a list that these people can subscribe to on their phones. It's exactly like email but much more effective. This step lets you advertise to everyone that has joined whenever you have a new offer on your website. This makes your hours of delivering worthwhile in the long run. This lets you establish a huge list / audience of valuable people, local folks with phones who are interested in local deals. Businesses will want you to advertise for them, and they will pay you handsomely to do it.

At first before you have any deals that you've acquired from local businesses on your website, you will still want to provide a lot of value to your list. You can market various clickbank products BUT... throw in some of the deals you find online; craigslist, facebook, newspaper. Be an aggregator and provide value, and let them know this on the flyer.

Give aways always get a response even flyers maybee 3 to 4 people out of 100. you may even slightly higher but a great way to start a little traffic for your site. The only way i can think of getting away from putting them in mail would be to hand them out or under car windscreen wipers.
