Would there be enough interest for a Reddit sub-forum in Social Media?

We have sub-forums for MySpace, Tumblr, LinkedIn and Weibo. While all of the sites are (or were) popular, I feel like having a Reddit sub-forum could help foster some discussion about ways to use Reddit to grow sites/make money/build brand awareness/etc.

According to Alexa, it's more popular than Yahoo in the U.S. and more popular than the BBC in the U.K.

I know I'd be active in such a sub-forum, I'd imagine there would be a lot of others who would be as well.

I'm surprised there isn't one, but at the same time, I kinda like how there's not too much discussion about Reddit here. That makes it easier for people who at least have a clue to make money, while most spammers lag behind. I know a couple of subreddits that would instantly collapse if a method was shared about them here. And since I've not properly monetized those channels, I better start RIGHT NOW

Nah, it is actually something someone made for me and I thought I'd toss it on here.

I may have snagged a domain last week that will turn into cash too should I get off my backside and build it out related to the avatar.

It'd be a popular one for sure. Maybe it could be in for 2.0?

I'd be interested in that being a new subforum as well.

I think it would do more harm than good to people looking to use reddit for internet marketing purposes. Reddit is different from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram because they utilize an army of volunteer mods who love hunting down marketers and banning them and getting their methods patched. For me, I would rather see it kept as a bit of a hidden gem, and people can still ask any questions they have as needed in the general social forum.

It's normal and accepted for people to market on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, many accounts on those sites are solely used for self-promotion, and that's completely within the TOS. Reddit is hardcore against unpaid self-promotion. Of course, that's where the blackhats come in, but I genuinely believe we would kill reddit for most people and simply render the reddit subforum unused because it is too difficult for newbies.

Hopefully that makes sense. Bottom line: I am against it getting its own subforum.

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. If you are going to post things like that, it doesn't make sense to be so vague.

I see the logic behind keeping things regarding Reddit vague. At the same time, someone brand new to Reddit marketing, not to mention IM in general, is going to have a hell of a time doing much (if there were a sub-forum), especially if they make it obvious. Reddit is a totally different platform and you would see methods go obsolete there almost immediately once they are shared. Personally, I'm not on BHW for the methods, I believe you have to figure out what works yourself, but there are plenty of resources here to help. Seems to me like a Reddit sub-forum can help marketers who have an interest in promoting on Reddit, but just don't have the complete picture about how it can work down yet.

Or it could be a good place to talk strat, it's just unique as a platform since regular users do have so much power.

According to this post from @Diamond Damien, the requirement for a new section is:
From a cursory search, excluding the non-discussion sections like the marketplace, downloads, etc, there appears to be fewer than 40 total threads, and that number only goes down if the 250 words in the OP requirement were enforced.

    https://www.blackhatworld.com/searc...2+131+59+129+80+127+130+126&c[reply_count]=10

Right now, a lot of forum sections would not qualify under the "50 engaged threads" rule. So if the issue is having too many forums, I'd suggest merging the dead forums (less than 20 new threads a year) into a broader topic, and relaxing the new section requirements to 50 engaged threads in the past 6-12 months.

Thanks @Stavro whilst my post was correct at time of posting, we're constantly looking at procedures on the forum, recently we updated the requirements and put them into the Newbies guide for reference so we can always point to that post for the current requirements - https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/how-to-create-a-new-sub-forum.1121067/ .

We'd be unlikely to merge less active forums as interest goes up and down in most areas of IM - even my space has it's uses! :anyway:

I was thinking more along the lines of Weibo, with 26 threads in five years.
    https://www.blackhatworld.com/forums/weibo.216/

It's a little odd that the relatively unknown (outside China) Weibo gets a dedicated section, while Reddit gets spread out between Social Chat, Making Money, WH/BH SEO, and other forums.

Agreed, it’s essentially one of the reasons we now have that rule. If we have the content, engagement and interest, then we’re happy to build it.

Requirements for a new sub-forum posted.
