Would someone help me train myself with the American Accent please?

I am an indian, and India is the land of call centers, we do have training institutes for the American Accent. But that is all bullshit. I have read and heard several Americans making really funny jokes about the Indians on the other end of the phone lines.

I need the accent if I am to get into affiliate networks myself.

So I was wondering if someone would come forward and help me out with this?

An hour a day on skype for a few weeks? Time will be compensated for of course.

Open to newbies too.

anything thats not indian is ok for me. I have been watching hollywood movies since I was a kid. mimicked everyone, stood in front of a mirror, and all sounds really American, but when an AM picks up the phone I turn Indian so fast that the speed of the call that travels half way around the world is slower. Unable to help it at all. communicating with real people would help a lot I guess.

well, soften the r's. i think the r's is the main problem with indians. if you can master that, than you may come off as foreign but not indian.

I think the problem is when you talk in a louder voice, so try to speak a little slower and with less noise.

There are so many people from India living in the US now that it seems wrong for them to assume you are outside of the country. Lots of high tech workers are here on H1B Visas and many have even gotten their green cards now. Even in my little corner of the American South there are tons of different accents. There are many Mexicans and Asians living around here plus ya have lots of people from the northeast and they definitely have a 'different' accent.

Hey!

I came to US July 2008 and I had some trouble with my accent because I was from Pakistan (Indians and Pakistanis have the same accent). I had lots of trouble making my class fellows and teachers understand what I was saying but I improved and now I have improved alot.

A suggestion for you is not to speak very loud and emphasize less on d and t. That's the basic big problem and once you get over it you start improving yourself.

By the was in the US you don't really have to be perfect. America is a land of Immigrants and basically every ethnicity has there own accent. The main thing is to make the other person understand what you are saying. That's all most Americans care about

The economy for IT work has become so depleted as a result that the "H1B" workers are now forced to travel America from coast to coast for contract jobs that pay $20-$40 per hour with no benefits and little or no compensation for travel. This is what greed, uncontrolled capitalism, and "free trade" have produced. I think I'll end my rant here, but hopefully you get my point as I really don't see your point to wanting to "learn" the American accent. It's not something you "learn" no more than I can "learn" your accent.

are you trying to say that I am as useless as the stupid call center employees working for like $300 a month, and you think the whole of India is filled with people like those? Dell and Microsoft want to cut costs, and are happy with what they pay for. Or maybe you americans should make them stop outsourcing their work to us. If you want better support, stop buying dell or microsoft products and get stuff from companies that charge you more and give you the so called Better Service from people that are not Indians.
