Worth trying link wheels for white hat sites?

Since link wheel seems to be the in thing these days.. I was wondering if i should employ it for one of my white hat sites

-I had a niche site doing ok since past 1 year...
-domain is aged..
-niche is broad, i wanted to target the inner sub niche pages using link wheels

Using Black hat methods such as xrumer,comment spamming,article marketing and social bookmarking to promote the web 2 properties involved..

Any insight in to this?

I have never heard of a penalty or anything going badly wrong on a white hat site when a linkwheel is used. Go nuts.
