I have read so many things about footprints and manual reviews etc..

However at the same time whilst i'm snooping on other sites back-links i'm coming across BLATENT PBNS. Today i found a network of 12 pbn site all propping up the same websites all belonging to the same guy. They have been up since 2012 unchanged. He's made no effort to block bots

Is it reasonable to assume i'm 90% safe because i'm not going after big money .. i just have small microniche adsense sites.

So take those sites as a negative example, build your PBN right, no footprints, all diversity, - and you are safe.

YEah cover your tracks, because someone else gets away with it doesnt mean you will. Try and ensure your own set up remains under the radar thats all that matters.

Just because someone managed to escape penalty doesnt mean you would do the same. Be protective.

Honestly making your PBN look real only saves your ass if you get a manual review, and the odds of that are super low.

Other then that you are just fighting against the PBN algo which is easy to beat. Just link to different site, fake whois, all different hosting IPs and you are pretty much safe.

I found a PBN that had to cost at least 5k, all of the domains had 25+ TF, 500-1000 referring domains, and 5k-10k links EACH.

Was clearly a PBN but his ROI is through the roof so even if it does get hit he will just build it again.

Yeah the "pbn algo" was what i was talking about really...

Is there any proof that a pbn algo exists?

There's no proof exactly but it's a struggle to imagine that a search engine giant that deals in data is relying exclusively on manual labor and blackhatters turning each other in.

EDIT: That being said, all it takes is reasonably easy infiltration into a high profile Public-BNs to have people running for the hills, convinced that Google has an algorithmic handle on things, when in fact they are relying on good ol fashioned spy work.

It's easy to paralyze yourself with too mcuh analyzing. Those guys you saw ranking with PBNs that have footprints - they took action with a poor plan and still ranked somewhere.

Start today, and do your best. Everything else will fall in place.

Its hard to give proof on this just know it exist. Its been around for a few years now. If you search you will see Google first hit PBN's in 2013.

I don't know if it automatically penalizes you or if it flags the sites for manual review all I know is if you set off to many red flags the sites WILL be penalized.

If you follow the normal PBN rules then you will be fine, making the sites look real only saves you from manual reviews.
