?Onement VI? from abstract expressionist painter Barnett Newman sold on Tuesday at a Sotheby?s auction for 43.8 million dollars.

Newman overwhelms and seduces the viewer with the totality of its sensual, cascading washes of vibrant blue coexisting with Newman?s vertical ?Sign? of the human presence, his iconic and revolutionary ?zip.?

What the fuck?! 43 M for this shit?

Is it just me or you can't see shit on this painting either ?

How is this expressing any feelings or emotions ?!

It's not something ordinary, that's what makes it interesting. The price itself makes it different and some people like to be different.

    Got it now?

To appreciate pieces like this that utilizes cascading colors or many different layers, one would need to see the piece in person. It's impossible for a photo to convey its complexities.

The name is what is sold here, not the painting.

I don't know if you've watched "The Intouchables", there is a pretty good episode about a painting with only blue dots on it being sold for over $35-50 M... That black guy makes a good fun of it :D

There 's no surprise here, it has to do with money printing and the channels it spreads through to the economy. Where you see bubbles, that 's where the new money flows first. Art and housing have been traditional recipients of the newly created money, for specific speculative reasons.

You did not understand the real beauty of it. It is a picture of a cow eating grass in an open land. Problem is that, the cow ate all the grass and ran away...

To be honest, I wouldn't say Jaconde (The Mona Lisa)/or any art for that matter ain't worth what its price tag indicates. I think Im gonna get a chimp to do a couple of paintngs and sell them for $50m each claiming that I got my inspiration from the deep pacific ocean..BOOM...easy money
