I currently have a free blog hosted at blogspot, ranking 300 for my keyword in google. My blog is PR2 and I have about 400 back links. My keyword only has about 300,000 search results but delivers 50k monthly traffic. I'm just wondering why im not ranking good for this. I have done social bookmarking (125 sites), keyword related comments, micro blog posts, and manual blog posting. I still can't get on the top page which shouldn't be to hard. Where am I going wrong?

Are you doing a lot of article marketing? Do you vary your anchor text? What quality of sites do you get your back links from?

I use SEnuke in combination with article marketing, with the emphasis on article marketing and it provides good results.

Make sure you didn't ignore on page seo. make use of h1 tags with your main keyword in them. Use h2 tags with your long tail keywords in them.

i havn't done much of article submitting, but my h1 tags are my keywords and my h2 tags are my long tail keywords, also when I do my back linking I make my "user name" my main keyword.

User name is not the way to earn some advantage to your blog, first try to increase the backlinks from high PR websites. Then indexed them on Google by Ping or Nuclear Crawler...it must help you in getting better PR.

First and foremost, on-page SEO, my friend.
Next, don't worry so much about the quantity of your backlinks. Are they from relevant locations? Are you using good (and varied anchor text? There are many things to consider, prior to unleashing your arsenal of backlinks.

Sounds like you're on the way to an over-optimization penalty tbh. Mix up your anchors with LSI's and even non related terms, rather than doing so much with your primary keyword. As some other posts already said, the quantity of links is less relevant than the quality. You said PR2 so I'm assuming the site is at least as old as the last PR update - how much content is on the site? Are you stuffing your keyword in there a lot? alt and title tags count too, you don't need to put your KW everywhere. LSI's / variances of the KW are better than repeating the targeted KW too much. No one can tell you exactly why you aren't ranking it, but analyze your competition a little and try to get some of the links they have if possible. There's so many factors that 3 sentences can't provide us with enough info to help you 100%, but certainly consider the over-optimization issue. From what I read it sounds like you might be doing a little too much w/ the targeted KW (just speculating..)

BTW the reason I keep mentioning the over opt issue is because most people I've been helping on Skype lately seem to be having this issue. they start reading about SEO, keep hearing about keywords so they think that all it takes is to repeat their keyword over and over, and build backlinks w/ their keyword as the anchor text, and make images with the file name as their keyword, etc...but that shits all outdated practices.

A handful of quality links, some quality content with decent on-page SEO, and a little time is about all it takes these days. The harder the competition the more quality links you'll need basically. To start, you could analyze some of your competitors and try to emulate their strategy. Use the same LSI's they have throughout their content. Exceed the amount of content they have. Get links on the pages they have links on where possible, and then go beyond that and build your own. The right PBN links can do wonders, but these are typically going to be a little pricey. There's just so much bro....you gotta do the research, keep ahead of the 'trends' and avoid the misinformation. This includes taking everything with a "grain of salt" so to speak, even the shit I just told you.

There are a lot of factors that can affect your rankings! but you should start with on page factors. Use a tool to compare your site to your top ranked competitors!

It doesn't work when you create bulk backlinks in one day, If you create backlinks in a regular time basis(5 - 10 links per day) then surely you can improve your rank in search engine organically within a month.

In simple words "Do Drip Feed"
