    Hello,

finally I found a really good idea, which will go viral. I hope you all understand, that I can't tell you more about my idea, but what I can say is, that it never existed like this in the internet before. The website will be interesting for everybody - and free of use (no payment).

I am convinced, that this idea has the potential to go worldwide and will be the next big internet thing (thinking of Google, Facebook, Amazon, Ebay or Pinterest, ...).

I am a Web Developer (mainly CakePHP, PHP, Javascript,...) and I have allready another real good WebDeveloping Partner. We are now coding since July 2012 on this Project, and will finish it, when it is perfect. Its all self written Code, and we could finish it within New-Years time (january 2013). We are sitting day by day coding until 3-4 in the morning! Motivation is no problem, because we only have to think about how good the idea is.

So the first big steps are almost done:
    - Innovative idea (check)
    - Developement & Implementation (almost check)

The next, and also last step is the BIG Launch. It has to be big, because we don't want that our idea gets stealed by a company, which just has more money for marketing than we have. So we are thinking of searching some big partners / or investors. But if we put up a presentation about our idea, which we show to potential partners/investors - and then they decline and they do this idea on their own, all was for nothing.

We need "some" money for a international launch (launch-day). We want to make a nice 10seconds tv-spot (10 sec is the maximum attention span of people) which directly presentates our website, and which is understandable for really everybody (our concept isn't that hard to understand, its just the thing how to tell it right).

After the Launch, the Website will deffinitely distribute by its own (this is part of our concept). So the only thing is the Launch, which has to be mastered.

Short: We don't want our idea to be stolen, but we need a Partner(s)/Investor(s)/Cash for the Launch! How would you do this?

Lol. You can't even talk about your idea. How ridiculous. Good luck finding investors. Ideas are not that important - it's about execution and vision. You really shouldn't be afraid to discuss what you're working on.

There are several types of investors, but in your case I can tell that you are looking for investors who could budge up to $500 000 in one shot.
Investors of that type usually don't invest in to ideas, they rather invest in to startups which have good teams, formed and ready for earning.

The usual problems with startups like yourself are:
    - they don't have a proper financial plan and don't know how much their project will earn, they just now that it's something big
    - they are not the best earners, they know what they are building, but don't know how to sell it or earn from it
    - they look at the project like it's their little baby and, thus, don't like to share
    - you only think about "how cool the project will be", "how people will have fun with it" and other things, I can tell that from the fact that you plan to offer it for free. Free things can be financed only by ads, and ads are a pain in the ass to get to your site (proper ads, like proper clients who want to advertise for big $$)

Maybe I'm wrong and maybe you have all that, then you should ask yourself:
    - are you ready to sell 49% of your idea, project and earnings?
    - can you create a worldwide brand with this, a brand which will earn enough to cover the investors?
    - do you already have a proper marketing plan with which you plan to present the project to public?
    - do you have the right team for this project? (programmer, marketer, PR, etc.)

Let's say that you have all that, then the next steps would be:
    - Slaughter your piggy bank or get a loan which can cover all the expenses which you will have with the planning
    - Talk with your programmer partner about the shares in the project/idea
    - Go and get a proper lawyer who can help you solve all the paperwork
    - Register your concept/idea, read more about Intellectual property
    - Create a presentable version of your project, the one which can be showed to the investor
    - Make proper plans, how much you want, how much you think you can get back, what markets do you target, what age etc
    - Pay people (not friends) to check the whole thing. Design of the presentation, grammar, approach etc. It has to look professional
    - The more you talk about your project the more ideas will poop out of your mind.

After that you can search for investors, but not before that.

If your project can't be cloned fast, and it is indeed a good project, you are not in danger. You 'll find an investor before someone clones it. If it isn't...

My first and only advice would be to have ALL things sorted out with your partner from the very beginning.

You don't want to have a partner that will go away with anything at any point.

From the sound of it you are targetting a very huge audience - keep in mind that you absolutely have to make sure that you can scale up the server enviroment!!! Can you scale the DB? Can you spread the site among several servers? Tested with Load Balancers? I am saying this because if your site is going to have authenticated users one server might only be able to handle a few thousand users So if you are targetting millions you might need a massive serverenviroment... When you do a TV-Commercial and reach millions of people at the same time its possible that millions will check your site out at the very same moment - if you cant handle the traffic your tv commercial might be pointless!

I'd also recommend to sit together with a lawyer or if you cant afford at least with a capable law student in his last semesters...

    As for fund raising:
    - Make a solid Businessplan
    - Carefully calculate the ROI!!!
    - Checkout Banks first and if you cannot get a loan or the like...
    - Second look for Investors

    Best of luck

    cheers

Thanks for all the tipps, I now talked to a big business owner, and he is ready to invest big money.
So to give something back, the best thing with a big idea is to talk to the right people. If they think that your idea is good, they will be ready to invest.

Ask me anything, I am ready to answer!

BTW: The investor gave me a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement.

My 5 cents here. You have to find a good partner who is experienced in the business world. Having someone who is able to interact with investors, do all the paperwork (like planning, business plan) is crucial. He's the one to have a clear vision of the product, not affected by the emotions you have.
