I have a couple of sites ranking #1 for their respective keywords. Each site has between 7-10 posts.
I'm getting traffic from my rankings, but conversions aren't as good as they can be if I create a static Homepage.
But before I create a static page, I was wondering, do using a static page hurt rankings?

If all your content is on a static page then it just makes the search engine index one page instead of all the other pages with the multi-paged theme which in other cases wouldn't hurt ranking but will appear less often in the search engine.

    No - definitely not.
Static pages seem to rank a tiny (teeny tiny) bit better in my experience. Also better control of menus normally - essp when a site gets very big. Having your key content on static pages (your landing pages, other key stuff) works better in lots of ways.
No biggie if you don't, but preference is llanding pages static, key content static, regular updates posts. :)
At least that's how I roll.

It shouldn't, at least it will not hurt to a great extent imo. Every keyword is associated by it's page (i.e., the overall content on that web page) first, then by the overall site and other SEO factors imo. Adding a static homepage shouldn't hurt those analytical factors. If your keywords are ranking then they are there chiefly because of the surrounding content on that web page and then because of other associated factor...

If the new static homepage is related to those web pages then it should still be very positive from the SE point of view. But nobody really knows how Google sees this particular aspect, so I would suggest you to go to mattcutts (oh! not him again! lol) and ask him the question. I don't know exactly where (which site) to ask it, but I have heard him address such issues on his YT videos. I think he know the answer and MAY choose to give you the right answer. :)
