so for my niche website farm (not blog farm) i'm going to be using wordpress.

i'm aware wordpress is a blogging CMS and this leads to my question:

the majority of themes made for wordpress seem to be blog oriented. each post on the pages have dates beside them, etc.

was just wondering what the best WEBSITE themes were, and how you niche site developers are using wordpress for sites and not blogs. it seems like they're severely blog oriented.

    thanks!

FWIW, use something like Artisteer and customise the page layout so that it looks less blog-like. You can remove the tags, post dates, etc, and then add plugins for functionality you'd expect in a CMS.

It's easy. You use something like Flexsqueeze or another 'squeeze page' theme. You can drop the sidebars, author & date, navigation, etc. - or not.

Search for wordpress squeeze page themes in the Downloads section. There are a ton.

I am currently learning and setting websites using Word Press CMS (static look websites). There are many advantages using WP for static websites over using HTML/Client side authoring softwares (Dream Weaver,MS Expression...). Few advantages are, you or someone else can update contents easily after setting up WP CMS . Setting up WP CMS is fairly easy after going thru it once. Check out youtube site for tutorials. The key thing is choosing the Theme and appropriate plugins.

I found this good article for 40 excellent WP-CMS plugins (most should be free)
    hxxp://www.noupe.com/wordpress/wordpress-cms-plugins.html
You can google to find free cracked DL for Artisteer if you're interested in creating your own WP theme (quick, easy and work well with WP). Artisteer also offer unlimitted free trial (you can create theme and export for WP, but you can not save). Hope this help.

I use wordpress for everything from sales page, membership site to company profile. It works perfectly fine. You can search for a squeeze theme that's flexible and customizable. Remember to do on-site seo and maintain the keyword density of your site

Sure wp was built primarily as a blogging platform but it has grown a lot since its origin. If you have the right theme you can run anything from a blog, to a forum, to an ecommerce site, etc.

Unless you're going to just build a few static pages and not add much more content after that, using wp is a pretty good choice. If you set it up right it can look like just a "normal" website, for significantly less than the cost of a web developer, but give you the ability to continually created new pages of additional content without needing someone to code some new pages for you.

I personally build a lot of my websites by just coding in css and html, but for someone that doesn't know much html, wordpress can be a very good option.

when you say ''unless you're going to just build a few static pages and nota dd much more content after that...''

i plan to make static sites and just put adsense and then not touch the sites much. is there a better CMS option than wordpress for this?

    perhaps xsitepro?

    Dean's FCKEditor For Wordpress
    Google Analyticator
    Google XML Sitemaps
    Platinum SEO Pack
    SEO Slugs
    Top Level Categories

these are a must for seo

    ahh GreeeenDolla thank you.

what theme are you using? I'm having trouble finding/installing successfully a squeeze theme... they're all saying broken/missing CSS files and whatever.
