Hi GuysI remember in the late 00's, wordpress tags were widely used. However I also remember reading, I wish I saved the articles (it might have even been a guide thread on BHW), that you should never use wordpress tags as it creates additional pages of thin and (or) duplicate content, dilutes link juice, and increases the risk of keyword stuffing. The only positives i've read about them are that if a user is reading a post, and sees the tag they may click on that tag to see more of your articles, but i've also read that these are very rarely clicked.Im just wondering, is there a general consensus on if wordpress tags are good or bad - and do you or don't you use them - and why? Thanks

    No problem.
My sites have many tags, I found the visitors often come from gg,bing, yahoo to tags. (checked with statcounter)

You can use them for navigation purposes only (less than 5 tags, I use max. 3), but I always noindex them.

What I've found is that tags do bring in traffic and at times can rank higher than the article.

But think about this for a second. Do you want people coming to your tag page or your article to see your offer.

In my view if you stick to the silo structure, tags can actually be a negative in the long run. If you have an authority site, you can imagine the work you would have to do on the seo page descriptions for each tag.

Though I know they can rank really well, I prefer to no index them or not use them at all.

Tags can certainly create ton of unwanted duplicate content in your site. But you can always noindex them.

As i noticed in spammy niches, tags stuffing is quite common and perform quite well.

So the bottom line is, no-index your tags :D.
