I have a blog with over 1500 unique posts. I'd like to add tags for each post using simple tags plugin and yahoo tags suggestions. I'd like to allow google cxrawl and index my tags archives. Is it safe ? Will i get in trouble for duplicate content ?

No, it won't. I have same condition and my pages are indexed for tag archive also but it is helping me. Tag content and single page content are not same for Google bo because Google bot see that tag archive has more and useful content which can be selected by the user. But it's problem that Google indexes the tag URL very slowly than single page content.

Look, there is NO duplicate content penalty. If two sites have the same content Google will have to choose which one to rank higher because two sites can't be at the same place in Google :) The same thing is on one site. If there is duplicate content on 1 site Google will choose 1 web page to rank better, so basically that second "copy" will not rank good or will not at all but it will not harm your first "copy".

On the other hand, if you have web site with a 100% duplicate content from the other sites that site will be penalized for being a crappy website, that's why autoblogs aren't rank very well in general :) if it's not adding value site will be penalized.

So you can freely have many tags.

that' not the problem if you keep 10 tags also but make sure that they won't look like spam and they are related tags to the post

I'll have to start tagging my content and see how much it affects me. I just started my blog and did all the work with the All in one SEO... Would tagging be necessary?

I've found it's best not to use tags, and instead interlink your posts a lot within your content aka Wikipedia style.

Picture it like this, you have a blog with 5 pages and have a PR5 backlink. The authority from that link is is split between those 5 pages giving them a certain amount of authority each.

If you add 5 tags to each page, you will now have 5 pages of content and 25 pages of tags making it 30 pages total. The authority from that PR5 backlink is now spread between 30 pages.

You don't really want that, you want all the authority consolidated to where it counts and that's your strong content pages that will pull visitors and convert.

Yeah, I skipped out on the tagging part because that is what I thought it would end up doing. Instead I went back and tweaked/inserted keywords for the SEO plugin. Now my blog only has a few posts so far so it was easy to go back and do it all quickly.
