So I just set up another site on a hostgator server. I am not really sure what is going on. If I make a change through the wordpress site, it takes over 30 minutes for the change to show up to everyone else. My friends site which is on the same server seems to be working fine. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It maybe a DNS issue, wait for a little bit and everything will be fine. If not, contact support. They are very helpful!

Is it something related to any kind of cache plugins that you may have installed?

It's either your DNS or some cache settings that need to be turned off.

    Edit

Here is how to fix that corrupted DNS cache.
    1. Click the Microsoft Vista Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
    2. Click All Programs
    3. Click Accessories
    4. RIGHT-click on Command Prompt
    5. Select Run As Administrator
    6. In the command window type the following and then hit enter: ipconfig /flushdns
    7. You will see the following confirmation:

Windows IP Configuration Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

I know cache was mentioned already. but let me clarify.

if you are using chrome to check it. try firefox, it generally likes to check for any changes. chrome loves to cache web pages so it loads sites faster.

if your using a caching plugin, go to that plugin and clear the cache, or deactivate it. I use one that have the "clear cache" button in the top admin bar.

again, browser change, and clear your browser cache first. its probably not an issue with the server side of things.

edit: oops, see you found your solution. well, glad you got it.
