Hey all, been lurking in the shadows for a while reading all the informative threads here. Something I've been wondering but can't find any opinions or facts on. I hear so much about blogs, especially wordpress being great for seo, but will a custom hand-coded blog give the same results. Is it just the continually updated content with keywords that the SE's are looking at, or is there something in particular that these blogging packages have that catch the SE bot's eyes?
    Thanks!

The design is not really important, you only need the on-site seo and link building. To get indexed and get noticed faster, you can try rss submission. Press release and ezine articles are also a good way to gain more traffic

i also think the fact that you can update it more easily and indeed ping the rss feeds etc will help you a great bit. furthermore, why not use wordpress since it is easier than making your own sites?

    Thanks for the replies.

Well, that's the thing, for my site, it'll be easier not use WP since the blogs are going to be based upon and generated from various db tables that I already have set up and work with. If I decide to use WP, I would be updating the WP tables via API calls or directly.

So, basically, if I have a good blog link structure, generate RSS feeds and ping them, I'll be covering what the SE's are looking for?
