Wordpress date (does it matter?)

    I am new to blog world! So please excuse me if my question or suggestion(s) sounds dumb.

    I noticed that Google shows the published (2 months old) date of my posts. I think, Google gives preferences to fresh contents. Thus, I tweaked the Wordpress code as follow:

    File Name: wp-includes/general-template.php

    Code:
    Code:
    function get_the_date( $d = '' ) {
    	$post = get_post();
    	$the_date = '';
            $yesterday = date('j');
            $yesterday = $yesterday-1;
    	if ( '' == $d )
    		$the_date .= $yesterday.date(', F, Y');//mysql2date(get_option('date_format'), $post->post_date);
    	else
    		$the_date .= date('Y-m-').$yesterday."T".date('05:i:s+00:00'); //mysql2date($d, $post->post_date);

    	return apply_filters('get_the_date', $the_date, $d);
    }
    This code will always show yesterday date for your posts. Now would Google consider it as spam or fresh contents?

    Thanks!

    PS: You are free to use the code if you want ;)

    You will get pegged hard with the next google update probably. You're not the first person to try this :p

    What do you mean by "pegged hard"? You mean penalized?

    I wouldn't set everything to show yesterday's date, I use the Date Exclusion plugin so that no dates show on the posts. That's not a replacement for regularly updating content, of course.

    All your posts will be from yesterday. now that isn't very hard to detect now, is it? Don't know how google might take it though. You can test on a throwaway blog or something before you try on your main domain. "pegged hard"? You mean penalized? it seems so

    I have had LOTS of success doing this for the first month of indexing. After that it seemed to show no more/better results.

    there's a WP plugin that can remove dates, if you're not wanting to show google that content was just posted or content is too old :)

    That's the one. It still works for me. (On most sites, that is - I've built a couple where the theme just doesn't want to let it work.)

    Why do you need a plugin to remove the dates , just go to themes index or single post page and remove the date code from there . I am sure the more plugins the slower wp gets . I do this for most of my autoblogs .
