Hi,

I have just noticed that the last 6 blogs that I have installed from 2 different hosts is installing with the privacy setting set to

"I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors"

Not sure why or when this started but its worth checking your blogs if you are not getting any love from the SE's!

Cheers
Sara

It's because you used fantastico (sp) to upload wordpress. If you manually install it will ask you before you activate it.

Fantastico default for latest Worpress is "I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors",

Its a trap for those that don't know.

Thanks for this, just checked my Wordpress blog setting and it was set to block.

;)

So, how does one one get around this if they want to use Fantasico for the install...or MUST you install it via manual process?

I have still been using Fantastico cause its easier than setting up DB's for me - then I just quickly change the privacy setting.

My other host doesn't use Fantastico but some other type of installer and I get the same thing - they must be trying to stop some of the splogs out there! Almost caught me out!

I always block spiders and stop pings until I've populated it anyway. Especially
if I got some auto content going on at mad speed for a few days.

In the past, when I was a Blog Noob, I had the doors wide open while testing and setting things up.

Result: a lot of unrelated pages and posts indexed within days. Going from "testing, testing, testing" to my login page.

These would stick for quit a while (sometimes months) and give an unprofessional impression when people stumble upon them in the SERPS.
