I have quite a few comments and backlinks on wordpress Blogs hosted on wordpress.c0m does each subdomain and backlink count as one link or do the search engines just count the link as one on the whole domain.

I hope its per subdomain as I have a lot of links. This question also applies to Blogger.

Uh, no. Google counts any backlink from one domain as one link. Sub domains act for them selves, so every backlink you get from a sub domain, it counts as one as long as it is a different sub domain.

Wrong...I have a large blogger site...only shows about 4 posts per page..links are in the template itself..
The site the links are pointing to...using backlinks in the google tool bar..shows multiple backlinks..from different pages...all from the same blogger domain..
And..there are large sites around ..if you check their google back links...many of the links are from different internal pages..pointing to the root domain page..and google accepts them.
And...forget the often repeated crap about links must be on theme related sites...my pr3 blogger site is on animals...the sites that pick up some link juice from it are on business marketing.
