    What else did you change when it stopped working? Could be the .htaccess file as well.

    Yeah that's wierd. This exact same thing is happening to a friend of mine. I can't figure out what it is at all. I don't have access to his Wp-admin though otherwise i'd go in and start searching for something. You could try this %category%/%postname% see if it does the same thing.

    Some more info about the Htaccess http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks

    Only other thing I could think of is just like CyberGlitch had said. Maybe a plug-in or something happened to your .htaccess

    Just Ruling things out. My friend that this happened to as well uses bluehost. Is that what you use as well??

    It's in your Cpanel. I'd just try contacting your host. They might be able figure out what the issue is. although some don't do support for Wordpress. Like hostgator say they don't but whenever I have a question about my sites or something that is wrong with them like a plug-in or something they've always figured out the issue.

    Its weird all my posts and other pages all work when I change it from /%postname%/
    to any of the Permalink Settings.

    Its worked fine for a year no issues.. Have no idea what happened.

    I've been reading more and more about this. Google'ing it and such. It seems this happens to quite a few people. I'd still contact your host and try to get them to help you resolve it.

    do you know what my .htaccess file should read? Mine says this...

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    Go to the permalinks page and click on the update/save button. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and see if it says something like could not write to htaccess file.

    If so chmod htaccess to 666, resave the permalink and then change htaccess back to 644

    This is a .htaccess file issue.
    If you want to verify this, just log in to your WP Admin page and change the permalinks structure to the default setting -> No pretty links... You'll see that all your posts and pages are now found.

    As for your .htaccess file:
    Open a text editor (I use Notepad++)
    Paste the following into a blank document
    Code:
    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>

    # END WordPress

    Go to File Save As and save the file as .htaccess

    Upload that file to your server in the same folder where WP is installed. This will solve your 404 errors when you go back to your custom permalink structure.

    Hope this helps
    Sebastian

    Who are you hosting with? It's starting to sound like your host has modrewrite turned off or even possibly htaccess capability disabled.
