Wordpress blog posts - keep them in blog folder or not?

I see the new trend to keep URL as short as possible and I see some people keeping blog posts in the root of the domain name. What is your opinion on this topic?

What do you recommend I do for my situation?

A) domain.com/blog/categoryname/post

B) domain.com/categoryname/post

In my blog, I have Services section and also blog category with same name where I have blog posts about different type of services. I could keep proper but very long URL or move them to same location where Services pages (not posts) are.

I would put all of the services-related content on the Services page (or as sub-categories of the Services category) and keep the blog-related content separately (I assume that you're going to have 100s or 1000s of blog posts on your site, otherwise I don't see much use for the blog... at least initially, after you get a good readership you could keep them visiting your blog to find out the latest news about your business)

SEO-wise it makes no difference, choose whichever format you like (personally, I like option A, but you don't have to do it like me :) )

I've been following proper naming standards all the time with Wordpress. Now I notice many sites doing shorter URLs which sacrifices proper naming.
 
Structuring is better, so I prefer first option. Also there is no difference between those in performance/seo, so it`s more up to you. For user experience is option A, for sure

I don't know what you mean by "proper naming standards" but you can name your URLs however you want. Making them shorter and memorable can help the users who don't save / bookmark them to remember them in the future should they need it for whatever reason, but SEO-wise the URL names have no impact
 
I prefer

domain.com/name-of-post/

and then your categories can be in

domain.com/category/name-of-category/



Depends on how much content you're going to have on your site... if it's thousands and thousands of pages I think it would be best to put them in subdirectories to avoid naming conflicts


I think shorter URLs are better for SEO... but it's negligible and just what i THINK (not know)
