    Sorry I know this is a newbie question, but I just set up wordpress blog and the urls are unfriendly and I have made one post and the sitehas like 5 pages all of a sudden.

    So just wondering firstly if you know how to configure friendly urls in wordpress (and if you think it's neccesary) and any other tweaks for a fresh wordpress install...???

    Settings - permalinks - custom structure, put this:

    Code:
    /%postname%
    Also, install all in one seo pack plugin.

    I use this custom structure for permalink settings - /%post_id%/%postname%/
    and like the Headway theme which has very good SEO built in.
    Or, install the All In One SEO Pack plugin.

    Just want to get these issues sorted now because they'll be a pain to change if I leave it until have pages indexed etc

    Just in case anyone needs to do this as well, I also had to create a htaccess file with the following:

    Code:
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks

    # BEGIN WordPress
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
    </IfModule>
    # END WordPress

    Before that, I was getting a 401 when blicking on links to my posts...
