I would say 8 out of every 10 times I try to access my WP admin it will NOT load.

It's quite annoying and is putting me behind schedule for a project because I'm unable to access the site to make changes.

A few days ago I had this same issue and someone was kind enough to go in and fix it for me (ended up being something with a plugin). However, the problem has now returned.

Unfortunately, I'm not too savvy with diagnosing or fixing WP-based issues, I'm quite a newb when it comes to this (I'm being HONEST at least).

If you were experiencing this, what would be your first step in diagnosing the issue?

it may be from a theme or plugin you might have installed. Try accessing the site via FTP and disable them.

You will need to remove the plugin which is causing the issue..Right now you can deactivate the plugin via FTP and then diagnose which plugin specifically causing the error. You can read this guide to see if it helps.

Enable Wordpress debug mode and check the error log.

Could it be your .htaccess file? Rename it and get WordPress to autogenerate a new one (save permalinks), see if that works.

I have experienced a simillar thing where varnish cache (from my host) was the issue. I had to add the wp-admin and wp-login to the excluding part of the caching. Perhaps you have something like this as well.

Move to managed wp hosting and forget about dealing with this kind of issues ever.

Liquidweb has this kind of service for $29 per month and now offers $11 discount for the first 6 months.

I think try some parameters with the admin URL, e.g. site.com/wp-admin?1=1
change parameter every time you try. This could overcome the caching issue

    Hi,

I had a similar problem a while back. Mine was caused through a plugin.

I diagnosed the culprit by accessing the plugin folder via my cpanel and renaming each plugin folder 'plugin.old' and refreshed the login page after each rename, if it failed to load I would remove the '.old' from the folder and move onto the next one until the login page loaded.

once I found the plugin responsible I disabled it and contacted the author to work towards a solution.

    Hope this helps you.

You get really good VPS for that price ... but okay :) these things are minimal to diagnose and fix.
