Wondering, is it smart to take "free links" from a forum, or use any other LB service?!

I'm thinking it would be very simple for Google to go through and subscribe to these various services or create fake forum profiles requesting "free links," then run an analysis on all the links pointing to their dummy site and put a block on the link juice making them worthless. If so it seems like any popular link building service should be avoided. Makes more sense to build your own private networks and become less reliant on outside links.

I've also been very careful lately about URL and Anchor normalization now and I have seen no recent impact in SERP, where there is any, it's very minimal. I'm convinced normalization, layering and variety are KEY right now.

Anyhow, I was just curious, maybe someone has a solid answer for me. If I worked at Google, that's probably what I would do. lol. Thanks.

The thought often occurs to me that Google being the multi-billion dollar company it is, if you've thought of it they're probably already doing it.

If you are paranoid about this, just buy a domain and 301 redirect to your money site. Then blast the 301 redirect with the links.

Personally I avoid many of these services, as I think it would be very easy to follow the footprint that is left behind unless the service provider takes proper precautions which for a free service in my experience is often not the case.

If something seems too good to be true, it often is. Just look at what links are being offered. I wouldn't look into it too much, huge amounts of legit backlinks are created on certain platforms daily.
