Jalonta Freeman of Arlington, Texas was approached by a stranger at a gas station, selling what he claimed to be a brand new $800 iPad, for just $200. Freeman and her family did not want to miss out on an offer they thought seemed great, so they gave him cash for the tablet, and the man quickly drove away. When the package was finally opened, the Freeman family discovered the elaborately wrapped "iPad" was actually just a mirror about the size of a tablet. Freeman said she felt stupid, but learned a valuable lesson, and offered this advice, "Don't buy nothing on the streets from nobody." An Arlington police spokesperson said that crimes of this kind always increase leading up to Christmas. Last year, incidents similar to this were reported in several states.

Happened to a mate of mine, when the Iphone 4 was released. A stranger approached her in the pub with what looked like a legit Iphone 4, she bought it and later fount out it was just a extremely good replica.

This is quite an old scam that people still fall for.

You take the parcel/box out of the bag and show them the device then place it back in the bag, once they decide they want it you reach into the bag and pull out an identical parcel/box which contains anything of a similar size and weight take the cash and do one.

It was actually featured on a TV program called the real hustle a few years ago.

Well the scammer has got more front than blackpool pleasure beach, I think the majority of people would like to see it working first before buying so they are taking a big risk in actually tring it in the first place.

My bro was sold a soap in the cover of a $500 mobile. The seller told he can't give bill but can cut down the rates by $200, so my bro bought the mobile at $300. But, when he reached home, he found a soap in the box. It was funny situation because without a bill my bro had no option but to use $300 soap for bathing purpose. His another mistake was that he didn't open the box front of the shop keeper because had he opened the box, then he'd have avoided the scam. :D

    Cheers :)

I was just about to say the same thing. You've got to be very careful when dealing in cash.

Yes, people are stupid and their greed takes over. That is why investment schemes with outrageous returns attract investors, then they get mad when the get scammed! It is there own greed that causes the scam to work.

This one made my day

Anyway, any great "deal" offered by a stranger who approaches you in a public place is most probably a scam.
Seriously, why on earth would someone you don't even know come to you at a gas station or at a pub and sell you a brand new ipad/iphone/whatever at a discounted price ?

And how are we supposed to feel bad for someone who paid $200 for a $800 product, thinking in all seriousness that was at all a legitimate deal.

Jalonta might have been hoping to get a steal, not a trade.

Yeah!! That's super funny and I kept recalling my bro for over a month about that incident. It is a lesson for him and for also many other people who don't use their brain while falling for such scams.
