Hey B-Hatters!

As an internet marketer, like most of you, I have gone through the psychological struggles of making a living on the internet - or better yet, how to become WEALTHY on the internet. This led me to some deep, internal "soul-searching", as well as actual research to find out what makes the "Big Dogs" of the internet so successful, or for that matter, what makes the "Big Dogs" in ANY field so successful.

One of the things I asked myself was, "Why is it that some individuals with ONE-TENTH of my knowledge make truck-loads of money, while other, highly creative and intelligent individuals can't even pay the rent?" . . .

The conclusion I arrived at was three-fold and actually quite simple:

1) They had a bigger APPETITE than me! . . Yup! . . . I was saying to myself, "Gosh! - It would be great if I had enough money to buy what I need and get by in this world". Whereas, THEY are saying "I NEED $1,000,000.00 this year and I won't settle for less! . . . You see? . . . Their "APPETITE" is bigger. They are "hungrier" - and they are DRIVEN by that hunger. It doesn't matter if they REALLY need $1,000,000.00 - What matters is that they BELIEVE they need it.

Example: Imagine someone is holding a gun to the head of your wife, your children, your parents, or for that matter, to YOU . . . Imagine them saying, "You have exactly 3 months to come up with $100,000.00 dollars or I will KILL them". (or you). Do you think you would be "hungry" and motivated enough to get that money in that short period of time? You BET you would! . . . and I can guarantee that if you didn't get the whole 100 Grand, you would most certainly come damned close to it.

Another example came from a friend of mine. His name is Rick Derringer. Some of you may know him as the writer and performer of the hit song "Rock and Roll Hootchie-Coo" (big hit in the mid-seventies). One time as Rick and I were sitting in his house, smoking some very fine Columbian Tops soaked in hash-oil, I asked him, "What did you do to become so successful?", and he said, "I imagined 3 huge niteclub bouncers holding my head underwater in a toilet bowl". I said to Rick, "You've gotta' be kidding", and he said, "No, I'm not." He said, "Can you imagine the struggle and effort it would take to get your head out of that toilet bowl with 3 huge bouncers holding your head down in it?" "THAT'S the kind of effort I imagined I needed and I used that mental imagery to make it in the music business".

2) Highly successful people know how to get out of their own way.

When it comes to success, how many of us have had an internal dialogue, or "self-talk" in our minds where we are saying to ourselves, "Do I really "deserve" that much money?" . . . "Am I worthy of making that much money?" . . . "Am I smart enough?" . . . and on and on . . . It's good to know that a lot of the mental blocks to becoming successful/wealthy are placed there by both ourselves, and the fact that we are often "re-playing the tapes" of old voices that have been programmed into our heads by our parents. "Oh, you'll never become rich". "Making too much money is bad". Only people BORN into money have it." "Just get a job and get that "Getting Rich" shit out of your head!" , , , and so on . . .

As a charactor in the POGO cartoons once said, "We have seen the enemy, and it is . . . us!

Believe in yourself . . . Believe you CAN do it! . . . and if you can't believe that you can do it, at least, DON'T BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN'T.

John Lennon was asked in an interview in Rolling Stone magazine, "To what do you attribute the Beatles' phenomenal success?" . . . and he replied, "We thought that we were the BEST fuckin' band in the universe!"

3) A Target Is Your Anchor.

You need a target, or a goal to get where you want to go.

How many times have we said, "I just want to get rich.", or "I just want to make a lot of money.", or "I just want to make enough money to live comfortably." . . . That kind of statement is very vague and broad, and believe it or not, it can hinder your success. You need to first ask yourself EXACTLY how much money you want to make. Why? . . Because, having a crystal clear "Target" lets you know exactly what you are shooting for.

Imagine this: Let's say you have an archery target about 100 feet away. Now you have a clear goal. You can SEE the target and you know exactly where to shoot. This is the same as having a clearly defined goal. You KNOW what and where you are shooting at/for.

Now imagine that you have a target that is "somewhere out there". You are not sure exactly what it looks like or exactly where to shoot. That is what NOT having a clear goal is like. How are you going to hit that vague "target" if you don't know where it is or what it looks like?

Also, having a clear target or goal is like a "reverse anchor". If you attach yourself to your goal, it will pull you upward toward it every day.

One last thing about targets: I believe that it is important in internet marketing to have a clearly defined niche to FOCUS on. There is a big difference between a laser beam and a flashlight. A flashlight covers more of a wide area, but the flashlight beam is weak and not very effective - Whereas a laser beam doesn't cover as much of a wide area, but the beam is STRONG and FOCUSED.

Be a Laser Beam and you will do much better,

Well guys, that is my take on success. I realize that there is much more to it. Heck . . . Volumes have been written on the subject. But anyway, these are my brief thoughts on it. If it helps anyone, that's great. If it doesn't, it was at least good therapy and a good reminder to myself.

I wish ALL OF YOU only the greatest success in your own lives.

Perfect..

Thank's Wiz for your valuable post, as always.
Yes it's very true we should think just like you said.
Just thinking like some one in deep trouble and wanting freedom.
You make my day !

Cheers.

I know about loss too lunatic. We all will someday.

Just some younger than others.

Don't try to be too hard on yourself.

Its all about surrounding yourself with people who like you for you and who are the real deal. BHW is a good place to find the real deal. You just have to look hard sometimes. Wiz and Harro are people i have found it easiest and most profitable to listen too.

good luck

Rudy

"Do not seek enlightenment unless you do so as one whose hair is on fire seeks water."

A lot of buddhist themes come up in money making-- especially all the intention-manifestation stuff. It's all about single-mindedness.. the laser beam.

After reading that, I do exactly that. I look on craigslist EVERY SINGLE DAY for a Porsche. That really gets me energized and I work my ass off for hours on end thinking about it.

rudy, thanks a lot for this! true, in hard times you see who is the real "deal". friends that support you no matter what. also i feel very comfortable here on BHW. i set myself a high goal to achieve by the end of the year. if i just make half of it ill be a happy kiddo :)
true, the posts of harro and wiz are impressing and also more than helpful.

Hey Wiz, you have made my day! That's the best and most valuable post I've read on BHW in quite a while....

A while ago, I lost everything virtually overnight (mansion, cars, retirement fund, big company, etc) - everything except great parents and a wonderful fiance. I had to think of a way to support them pretty much instantly. At the time, I knew I didn't want to work in someone else's office, and out of absolute necessity in putting a roof over our heads and groceries in the fridge, I now have my own consulting firm that allows us to live comfortably. The point of this little story is - if you want it and need it enough, you will make it happen.

Now, with thanks to your post, I just need to apply that same drive and determination to making an even more comfortable living on-line!

One final observation, which I think ties in nicely with Wiz's post (for me anyway) - usually, the best motivators in life aren't the ones where you envision yourself driving a hot car, or living in a huge mansion. It's the deeper things, like being able to say to yourself "I am able to give my parents a dignified retirement" or "I can go to sleep at night, knowing I'm not in debt, and have the freedom to pursue what I'm really good at and really enjoy." Or being able to support a cause you feel passionately about. For me, those goals are the greatest motivators!

So, thanks again Wiz! Because of you, I now have a goal of $250K in my first year, $1M in my second, and I'm gonna get there! :D

Cheers, Ness

WizGizmo -

Great post! You've certainly given me a lot to think on! Keep up the great downloads, and feel free to share your personal outlook whenever you have the time or inclination. The BHW gurus probably give us far more when they simply share their experiences in marketing, even though we DO love all the download treats!! :)

To nessa2shoes:
