Hey B-Hatters!
As an internet marketer, like most of you, I have gone through the psychological struggles of making a living on the internet - or better yet, how to become WEALTHY on the internet. This led me to some deep, internal "soul-searching", as well as actual research to find out what makes the "Big Dogs" of the internet so successful, or for that matter, what makes the "Big Dogs" in ANY field so successful.
One of the things I asked myself was, "Why is it that some individuals with ONE-TENTH of my knowledge make truck-loads of money, while other, highly creative and intelligent individuals can't even pay the rent?" . . .
The conclusion I arrived at was three-fold and actually quite simple:
1) They had a bigger APPETITE than me! . . Yup! . . . I was saying to myself, "Gosh! - It would be great if I had enough money to buy what I need and get by in this world". Whereas, THEY are saying "I NEED $1,000,000.00 this year and I won't settle for less! . . . You see? . . . Their "APPETITE" is bigger. They are "hungrier" - and they are DRIVEN by that hunger. It doesn't matter if they REALLY need $1,000,000.00 - What matters is that they BELIEVE they need it.
Example: Imagine someone is holding a gun to the head of your wife, your children, your parents, or for that matter, to YOU . . . Imagine them saying, "You have exactly 3 months to come up with $100,000.00 dollars or I will KILL them". (or you). Do you think you would be "hungry" and motivated enough to get that money in that short period of time? You BET you would! . . . and I can guarantee that if you didn't get the whole 100 Grand, you would most certainly come damned close to it.
Another example came from a friend of mine. His name is Rick Derringer. Some of you may know him as the writer and performer of the hit song "Rock and Roll Hootchie-Coo" (big hit in the mid-seventies). One time as Rick and I were sitting in his house, smoking some very fine Columbian Tops soaked in hash-oil, I asked him, "What did you do to become so successful?", and he said, "I imagined 3 huge niteclub bouncers holding my head underwater in a toilet bowl". I said to Rick, "You've gotta' be kidding", and he said, "No, I'm not." He said, "Can you imagine the struggle and effort it would take to get your head out of that toilet bowl with 3 huge bouncers holding your head down in it?" "THAT'S the kind of effort I imagined I needed and I used that mental imagery to make it in the music business".
2) Highly successful people know how to get out of their own way.
When it comes to success, how many of us have had an internal dialogue, or "self-talk" in our minds where we are saying to ourselves, "Do I really "deserve" that much money?" . . . "Am I worthy of making that much money?" . . . "Am I smart enough?" . . . and on and on . . . It's good to know that a lot of the mental blocks to becoming successful/wealthy are placed there by both ourselves, and the fact that we are often "re-playing the tapes" of old voices that have been programmed into our heads by our parents. "Oh, you'll never become rich". "Making too much money is bad". Only people BORN into money have it." "Just get a job and get that "Getting Rich" shit out of your head!" , , , and so on . . .
As a charactor in the POGO cartoons once said, "We have seen the enemy, and it is . . . us!
Believe in yourself . . . Believe you CAN do it! . . . and if you can't believe that you can do it, at least, DON'T BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN'T.
John Lennon was asked in an interview in Rolling Stone magazine, "To what do you attribute the Beatles' phenomenal success?" . . . and he replied, "We thought that we were the BEST fuckin' band in the universe!"
3) A Target Is Your Anchor.
You need a target, or a goal to get where you want to go.
How many times have we said, "I just want to get rich.", or "I just want to make a lot of money.", or "I just want to make enough money to live comfortably." . . . That kind of statement is very vague and broad, and believe it or not, it can hinder your success. You need to first ask yourself EXACTLY how much money you want to make. Why? . . Because, having a crystal clear "Target" lets you know exactly what you are shooting for.
Imagine this: Let's say you have an archery target about 100 feet away. Now you have a clear goal. You can SEE the target and you know exactly where to shoot. This is the same as having a clearly defined goal. You KNOW what and where you are shooting at/for.
Now imagine that you have a target that is "somewhere out there". You are not sure exactly what it looks like or exactly where to shoot. That is what NOT having a clear goal is like. How are you going to hit that vague "target" if you don't know where it is or what it looks like?
Also, having a clear target or goal is like a "reverse anchor". If you attach yourself to your goal, it will pull you upward toward it every day.
One last thing about targets: I believe that it is important in internet marketing to have a clearly defined niche to FOCUS on. There is a big difference between a laser beam and a flashlight. A flashlight covers more of a wide area, but the flashlight beam is weak and not very effective - Whereas a laser beam doesn't cover as much of a wide area, but the beam is STRONG and FOCUSED.
Be a Laser Beam and you will do much better,
Well guys, that is my take on success. I realize that there is much more to it. Heck . . . Volumes have been written on the subject. But anyway, these are my brief thoughts on it. If it helps anyone, that's great. If it doesn't, it was at least good therapy and a good reminder to myself.
I wish ALL OF YOU only the greatest success in your own lives.
