Wisdom required, when do you know its over!

Lets assume you had a site idea in the dating field and it was a new spin on the idea and well presented.

How much traffic would you monitor who have left the site without converting before you know you simply have a shit idea, or rubbish landing page?

The reason I say this is largely due to an argument I am having about FB being a rubbish way to generate interest on most kinds of sites. The thread hosts were saying that if you cant make a website work after marketing to a group on facebook, your site is simply shit.

I am generating about 500 visits a day from twitter and not much as we are new from else where. But as the bounce rate is so high, i kinda wanted some love and warm encouragement.

1./ How much targetted traffic and non targetted would you need to tell you you need to move onto another idea?

Or is this the burning question with all web based ideas and businesses?

As far as design slickness goes and the idea slickness, most of the experts I have asked have been blown away by our vision, yet, the punters either dont get it or think its a naff, or too early idea.

The main idea is to provide your user base with a reason to want to follow to one of your ads.

They come to the site for information, and they are searching for a place to go. You provide them with a good offer - whether it be cpa, adsense, etc, they will more than likely follow through that link.

The question is, what are you expecting out of the website (money wise)? If you are setting a goal/day, are you reaching it? If so, then no need to worry.

A lot of twitter traffic are bots - are you taking this into account? There are so many posted links/day on twitter in various hot hashtags that there's not going to be necessarily a lot of clickthroughs...

You need targeted audiences for best results. Go after longtail keywords in the SERPs...

If you build it, they will come. If they like what they see, they will follow your ad.

Have you made any conversions? What's your ratio...

Also, how new is the site? It may take a while for it to generate real interest (via SERP clicks)...

Ok I dont know what serp is other than its a clip the google uses for describing your site.

1. We have daily visits from Twitter of 300 or more bounce rate v high
2. The site marketing is about 2 months old, so only 160 backlinks
3. I want them to like the idea and have a look round the site and join it free
( they are not doing that )
4. I have not once posted links on twitter thats my trick. Not promoting. They are curiously clikcing my profile url top right!!!!

So far from my efforts I am reaching 1-3 members per day and not alot of activity around the site.

I did not know that twitter bots are around but I did know that the clicks are massively high compared to other sites I AM SOOOOOOOOOO impressed with it. Using the bot from livelybrowser on here. Life saver.

I vastly vastly vastly underestimated the apathy of people who come across something. And vastly need to refine my twitter campaign with targetted customers.

I am not offering them something to buy, but with another product I KNOW I could convert alot easier. This is like a listing site a members thing you know.

I am sad.The idea is pretty brilliant and so nicely done. I have had a massive bmw wrap ( which doesnt work btw ) and so I guess I have spent about 10k on it

Dont want to give up till I can say,

"right I have had x visitors and x target visitors, and the idea isnt going to fly"

I am already downgrading my server to a VPS as I cant afford the hosting anymore... I guess even a brilliant idea in a busy niche is not enough... Boy I have some advice to give someone now.

Sometimes the idea might be brilliant, the niche might be amazing and the methodology might be incredible, but if your visitors are not "buyers" (even though you are selling nothing) it's doomed to failure.

Sounds like you just need to change your target, or is it specific to Facebook?

I agree, it's all about oppertunity costs.
Where should you allocate your time/money, what's more important?

Right see your point. Well in the ideal world I woukld GET A JOB!

But yes ok maybe I can develop something else and compare the stats.

Well interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No FB is the worse place. I am looking for single men who are fit and or cool. I even offered to pay for space on muslce forums etc but no joy. Twitter bounce rate is high but its a matter of shit and walls and sticking etc

Ever thought about doing blackhat affiliate marketing? Specifically getting some Ewhores to make it work? Have you tried CL?

why do you feel you have to be so unique? the best way to see if something works.... if wait to get spammed.... or see what people are doing.... why do you believe you have to be so into a micro niche to make any money??? remember fuck who was first..... the internet is huge bro

Got to be careful with too much bh as I dont mind a bit but its one of those products that needs to be staying put in google for as long as possible.

As far as affliates go, this will be the method, but I KNOW that the affliates wont touch us or sell for us until we have a site that has working profiles on it and is being populated with hunky men. See my catch 22.

1/ Niche within a niche tends to be profitable and as a business prospect is one of the first questions.

has it been done before, what is the value, how outstanding is it, what is your unique selling proposition, does it have forwardable qualities, is it strong enough to grow virally, how much money is in the market, how much percentage share would you aim for.

Surely thats business sense.

As far as selling stuff goes, sure I agree, And you make an inspiring point about the site of the net.

My learning has shown that unless you do the Google research BEFORE you even start to pen your idea thats a good way to go about things today. I like a giant buffoon knew there were lots of dating sites out there, but I did not realise that even if I had the best idea in the world, if I cant be indexed for it, i am screwed with a big stick.

Learning and sharing on here has taught me alot, same or more than countless seo books and hence I note that there are ways to generate traffic other than following the routine and slow methods.

You are going about this all wrong. Promoting an empty dating site will never work. First, what script is your dating site written on? If it's boonex dolphin, I will send you a profile generator with pics for it, PM me. If it's not, then go to Getafreelancer.com and place a ad for 3-5,000 unique profile to be made, with pictures, etc. You should be able to get this done to your expectations within $300.00.

Next, get a cr*igslist (CL) tool... one of two ways to do this. One is to email the people that have posted ads. I use Leads portal for this, but there are many others. With this method, just scrape all the emails for the people that you are targeting, like (w4M) and then send a generic email (you will need email rotation software for this), like "I really liked your post, I wanted to send you some pics, but they are too large and it won't let me send Write me back and let's meet."

Almost everyone will reply and now you can add them to your regular email list! Do this for a week, then collect them all, import them into another mailer and send a professional looking " A friend has invited you to "mysite.com" type invite. Use a html template so it looks really high end. Don't forget to put some common American name in the mail to let them know who has invited them! Almost everyone knows a john, jeff, jamie, amy, etc. If you get spam complaints, just make sure you have a little invite a friend script on your site! Tell your host it's from the automated script and people are inviting their friends.

Or go for #2... just post in the proper area in cl for the people that you want to target. Put up a pic (the worse resolution the better) of an average person, "Hi, I am looking to meet for no strings. blah blah blah. Oh, yes, please don't spam me, I am for real and just looking to meet people, not play games." Just collect the replies... you'll have a hundred in an hour if you do it right. Don't mail them back! The idiots will continue rolling in for about a week! Then after a week, extract the emails and send invites (like above) and utilize every other ewhore trick that can be found in this forum.

If you have a quality site, then you have a base. The only dating sites that get big do it either black hat, or from tremendous marketing budgets. Which one can you do? Be proactive, stop reading this post and take your ass to CL, now!
