Anyone using these? Especially Nokia Lumia.

How do you feel about it?
Can you run desktop programs on it?
Do you get much preinstalled crap same as on Android?
Can you remove that crap? Or need to jailbreak beforehand?
    Is it fast?
    Battery life ok?

I have no experience with these and hoped I could get some honest opinions before I buy. Getting tired of Android for the reasons listed above.

    Hi,

I am using Nokia Lumia from past 6 months and I feel its ok but I am now bored of it because of boxes who comes on front screen as I would like to see wallpaper instead of boxes. Leaving this its good. It do not comes with preinstalled crap apps. You can not run desktop apps on it. Its fast and battery life is better than android phone. Windows 8.1 coming for all windows phone in june so I am waiting for the update. Currently there are not much apps on windows phone so first check the windows phone store before buying the windows phone. :)

Thats a silly move on behalf of Microsoft. I was convinced you get the same Windows on all the devices.

so we can't run desktop apps ?
i was thinking about running gsa on it.
    </joke>

can you use a software like bluestacks to run android apps on it ?
can you install a program without store ? (android allows you to install apps directly from memory card , some hacked games to get more points)

imo it's good to increase productivity (there are not many games on it)

I thought the same before buying the phone. There is no file manager also. We can not hide or password protect any app even.

    ;)

NO we can not run android apps on it. We can download the app from windows phone store from pc and copy it to memory card. And then we have to go to store on phone again to install it. We cannot directly install it.

Well, I'm used to that desktop/laptop mentality, where you get the hardware and do with your software whatever you like. The closer I can get to it with a phone the better it is for me.

At the moment my Android phone is not "productive", because its different, because its slow, because its not secure and because its Google. There are probably more because, but I dont remember them. :)

The only way to change that is to switch to something else, and so far it seems that Windows 8 is closer to the ideal I'm after.

Why should that be silly? You don't want to run an full blown Office on an win8 cell phone?

I dont run full blown office on the PC as well. :) But Word would be nice. Additionally, there are other programs (some of them very light) that are already on the market. If Microsoft could support them, they would dominate the market very fast IMHO.

I think that Windows 8 phone is underrated, particularly when compared with Android. It seems easier to use then Android and somewhat less intimidating for a new user. The display is also better looking than Android- hands down. The one thing I don't really like so much is that Bing is the default search engine, as I prefer Google, but this is a minor annoyance.

I use the Nokia Lumia 521 and its a pretty sweet phone. It doesnt officially have an HD screen but the 4 inch display it does have is very crisp. The drawbacks are its camera if you like taking pictures, but the OS I think is just fine and competes well with the iphone. Plus, its super cheap compared to most phones :p
