    Hi,

I have a legit windows 7 CD key. I installed it on my desktop and my sister installed in on her laptop. Apparently this is against the TOS and when windows does a vertification check eventually, everything goes to shit.

Can someone tell me what happens exactly?

My sisters really pissed at me because its her CD key and she thinks her computer is going to explode because she shared her key with me.

She is demanding I uninstall my Windows 7, except I cant. I dont have a back up OS on me. :(

you will most likely not be able to update once they check if its a genuine copy. not exactly sure though... however I am running a cracked copy =)

Worst case scenario is that you'll get a popup telling you that you need a windows 7 cd key and you can't download new windows 7 updates. However keys on torrents usually get shared a bit before they get banned so *probably* nothing will happen.

Don't take me on that though.

Well, this isn't much help for you now but for the future: always have XP on a partition when you'e running one of these "call home" Windows. You never know when it will decide you're not valid and stop booting. Lsat year I had a bootleg Vista that was just perfect. Then I got real Vista and now it "forgets" it's valid every month or so. The hack worked better than the real one does! But I can always boot into XP when it's having one of it's little fits.

Good luck with your PC (and your sister). Surely you can scrape up an old XP from somewhere.

    Thanks guys.

Oh man... I DO NOT want to go back to Vista or XP after seeing Windows 7.......

Im not really scared, my sister gets worked up. I think the worst that will happen is that it will have a popup.... that I can possibly get a patch for.

And I keep on reading about this new Windows 7 Black Screen of DEATH.

If anyone actually had this problem, I would still love to hear what they did to resolve the issue....

i have a copy running on my server that i haven't gotten around to activating, the only thing I've noticed is I get a popup every time i switch it on and you can just close it, it'll pop up every-now and then but i don't think functionality is affected. I download torrents and use it to stream videos to my PS3 and surf the web without any dramas, just kill the popup whenever it appears.

I haven't tried doing a windows update but i don't need to at this stage.

stop your updates right now and that of your sister's too. I have been hit by this fuckin update. MY OS keep telling me that i am using a illegal copy of Windows. If you close your updates than the patch will not install on your PC and Microsoft will not have any other way to check the legibility of your Windows. Hope this will help you.

The trap is the Windows update, avoid or block if you can via the firewall or by turning off the update option. Also, find an equivalent for W7 to a program (designed for 32 bit XP) called WGA Killer 6, a great utility that totally zaps the activation function of Windows.
