A bit of a more long term question as I assume the consensus right now is that SMM’s work in the short term and boost reach, hashtag rankings (like getting to explore on ig or in extreme cases trending on Twitter etc.). M I correct in this? But as we all know it’s a constant cat and mause and maybe even an arms race between social media networks and SMM providers. Do you think big ones like Fb or Twitter will catch up sometime in the foreseeable future and make SMM totally useless? I’m talking about stuff like instant drops, shadowbaning and baning accounts boosted by SMM, blacklisting their bots, nullifying the effect algorithm gives to bought social signals etc. I know all of this happens already to some extent (like I said cat and mouse and/or arms race) but is this situation like with PBN’s (if done right there is shit Google can do) or will there be a silver bullet in the future?

I don’t know, people says that Instagram will not show any more how many likes a post get.
And my IG account, for example, I bought daylight followers for a really long time, and now days I loose like 50 followers per day.

Well regarding IG update, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot a bit. It sounds like this famous snapchat update with the CEO saying “we don’t give a shit about what the users want” and they lost tons of active users. They may still do it cause corporate is often even more short term focused on profits than we IMs ;):)

When it comes to followers what you experienced is natural. Followers that were bought usually start dropping after some time. So SMM is more suited to short term “churn and burn” and I wonder if they will ever catch up to that. Because to be honest even if for example IG removes likes there will still be comments and followers... They would have to castrate 70% of the platform to fight SMM this way. I’m 99% sure there are better (for them) ways to do something about bots.

smm panels will get more smarter with proxies to make it look like a natural growth.

Yeah I think so to. Like for example the relatively recent invention of residential proxies. In theory u could set up everything in such a way that it looks very human. The only threat I see is if social media would introduce verification by ID/passport but that would be hugely impopular and is unlikely unless some legislation obligates them to do so or enforce ID verification in other parts of the internet already (and ppl get kinda used to it, however I’m sure a lot will be perma pissed including me). It sounds crazy but given the direction of all those internet laws (for example the digital economy act in UK) it may happen. If I’m correct this is already happening in china. Any idea how they deal with that there?

Yes as it is their job to avoid spam on their platforms. I dunno if you already knew it but Insta is planning to remove the like button on IG. It is one big movement from them on boycotting SMM panels.

Yeah somebody already mentioned it above. This will complicate the game but comments, dms, followers etc will still be available. Also as I said about this before IG (facebook actually since they own IG) may be shooting themsleves in the foot a bit (which is arguably not good for us) kinda like snapchat did with their famous update

Things like that happen and we cannot control it. But yeah, we are Internet Marketers and we adapt.

Yeah this is kinda a purpose of this thread. To stimulate ideas so we know how to deal with what social networks are preparing for us before they even implement it :smirk: also the other goal is more theoretical namely the analysis whether they have an ultimate advantage (ofc it’s their platform so they have the ultimate control but they are still limited to some extent for exapmle if you shut down IG u 100% stop botting cause there is no more IG but obviously they won’t do that) and is this something we can’t overcome with our brains

At least when there is a big demand for it the market will always stay.

I doubt it, social media has been around for so long & smm panels are still thriving to this day. I see it ending no time soon.

That’s for sure. The market could “exist” even if SMM’s weren’t working tho (selling usless service to naive ppl) :(. So maybe the question is not if SMM will exist and be profitable to operate but rather if it will still be effective

Good point and social media have been trying for some time now that’s why I’m calling it an arms race and cat and mouse game. Networks makes “purges” every now and then as well as develop new ways of detecting. While SMM’s “rebuild” and adapt their own ways to hide. The point is will this cycle last forever or are there any “technological” considerations that give or will give one side the ultimate advantage. Also arguably since recently social media doubled their efforts as they generally shift their focus from user base growth towards squeezing profits out of them.
