Will redirects to inner pages work if I use them like this?

I know that redirects work amazingly for ranking an inner page if the domain & its backlinks are relevant to your targeted keyword, but will they boost a page targeting an unrelated keyword if they're still relevant to the article somehow?

Example: My target keyword is "gold mining" and I find a good domain about Africa. If I write an article about gold mining in Africa and the domain I redirect is strong enough could I rank the page for my target keyword or just for "gold mining in Africa", as the newly-added link juice is only relative to the Africa part?

Never tried that, not sure of how it's going to work, but interesting enough to try for my opinion.

301 is great (when it works) but in your specific case I would also consider another move : Instead of redirecting the domain, why not creating a page "gold mining in Africa" (in the Africa domain) and from it to make a backlink to you're page "gold mining" ?

That page would need to be surrounded by a decent number of others, lot of work just to get a single backlink that wouldn't have even a fraction of the juice the redirect would give.

I wouldn't do that. This approach is good if you need to repurpose a domain for a PBN.

However with redirects there are risks involved if you screw them up. In this case, there's a good chance that you will shoot down your site entirely, because you will make it less relevant niche wise.

Your redirected domain has to be as niche relevant as possible to your money site.
