My account got shut down with a negative $500 balance so I want to know should I close and open a new bank account or would PayPal not just withdraw money from me?

My account was linked to my bank so I want to know. Should I get my account shutdown to avoid them charging my bank or do they not do that?

    Thanks

They'll charge your bank if you don't close out the account. If you get the bank to reverse the charge they'll send you emails every week and eventually turn it over to a collections agency. They'll send you threatening emails and call your number repeatedly but eventually give up after a month or two. Save the hassle and close the account if you can.

They will charge your bank, yes. If they deserve the money, just give it to them.

No. Payapl can't take money from your account but if you've debit or credit card verified with paypal they might take it from it but again I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

They will definitely charge your account, since it is linked to your paypal account, better close it now.

If you want my advice. Pay up.. I have tried it before but with around -$100 though.

I did not do anything, then one day, a letter from a collection agency arrived at my door, now the bill was $150. So better pay now, when it's "only" $500..

    Just my two cents.

Yes, they will deduct from your bank account. If they can't get their money back (it is not your money right?), they will turn it over to collections.

I may try to pay eventually but do you think the cost will really go up?

My credit is already screwed from medical bills from a while ago so I'm not really worried about that.

I can only speak from my own experience. I don't know which country you're from, but in my country, if we don't pay our bills on time, we eventually wind up in a central registry, stamped as a "bad payer" that means you basically can't do jack shit until you're back out again (which supposably is not that easy). So if I find my self with a bill from a collection agency, I pay fast.

However, if you do not have the funds available now, I'd call Paypal up and work out an arrangement. I'm sure something could be worked out.

They will send collection agencies to come and get ya

They did with me as I got conned and let someone sell shit on eBay, I was the UK seller so to speak

I asked the agency for the credit agreement six years ago... They couldn't Provide and six years later not heard a peep

They will pursue through a collections agency. You could work out either directly with paypal while the case is with them or with their agency to settle payments over time.

I'm from the U.S. I can't imagine what they'd do besides sending it to a collection agency if I don't pay it off. I'm sure they wouldn't bother suing for $500. I already have bad credit though so that isn't really a big deal to me. I'm sure I lijely won't be able to open another account with my home address and social security though.

It would shock me if they sued you for 500.00 too.

You will never be able to open another account with them, as you know, and if it goes to a collection agency (typically debts are sold for pennies on the dollar) they won't sue you either in all probability. They will just annoy you.

The thing about this is though, is that although your credit is screwed due to medical bills, should you not handle this now with PP, your credit will remain screwed for an extra 7 years. There is value in having good credit as it is tied to so much these days so the sooner you can clean that up the better and not dealing with this today makes that a pain for you for that much longer.

Word man. I'll see if they will let me pay it off slowly over time. Then I wouldn't really mind paying back.

Even if you close your bank account, if PayPal tries to deduct the money within 30days, your bank can reopen the account, take you negative, charge overdrafts, then it won't be PayPal but the bank coming for the money.
If the debit your account all matters HOW your PayPal account went negative.
