If I write an article and put in on my homepage, with my primary keyword repeated 4 times in the article, but all as links to another site, will my "article" get credit for the keyword, or does the link transfer the "SEO Value" to the other website?

This is a bit complicated, let me give an example:
I make an article with 4 links. The 4 links TEXT is called "dog training", however their ALL linking to "dogtraining . com".

When people search for "dog training" in google, will my linked keyword count?

    any help is appreciated.

    Supermanden,

If you are asking if placing these keywords as anchor text on your home page will help your site rank for those words the answer is yes. Search engines typically give more weight to keyword text that is in a link on a website.

The site that you link to (as long as the links are do-follow) would get PR credit from your website.

Make sure that both the content on the home page and the content you are linking to using those words is relevant to the key terms.

Here is an article about anchor text best practices,

Let me know if this doesn't answer your question,

    Shawn

It will help you rank a little bit, however as you can imagine, by linking the keyword to another site, you are partially giving credit or "Link Juice" to that site.

So for optimal credit to my own site, it's better to let the keyword stay text, instead of a link?

Linking to other websites in your industry is encouraged by Google. It's natural site behavior. That said, it's a tiny, tiny fraction of what'll actually cause your website to rank; so it's not really what you should focus the bulk of your attention on.
