Is the domain & keyword an EXACT match? Is it a only a one-term keyword?

A lot of the answer would have to do with what chickendotcom's SEO looks like.

Other related keywords would also factor in. For example, if he only optimized for the kw "chicken", you could place well for:

    chicken dinner
    chicken fried
    choking your chicken
    chicken shit

etc.... You "surround" the kw by related kw's, then link them all to your money site. Cumulatively, all other things being equal, I think Google would prefer the common denominator of your site (chickenwordsdotcom) with numerous related kw's linking back to it, vs. a weak site that has backlinks for only the single keyword, and an EMD.

    FWIW, that's my opinion.

Nope not at all. Maybe you do not rank #1 but if you add Review to the title and rank right below them then you will get traffic. I do it all the time.

You could get on page 1, domain name is only one part of the puzzle, there are plenty of other quality signals you can focus on. crack open your competitors website and analyze what the content on their site consists of....that makes sense right? . L o_O K deeper.
