Just wondering if google will rank 2 of my sites for the same keywords coming from the same hosting and nameservers? Or should I have it on different hostings? Please advise? Thank you!

Sure! As long as the sites have different content and links from different places.

If the sites are duplicates and/or the very same sites link in to them both then you're likely to have problems.

Imagine a situation where my competitor and I are using the same (rather large) hosting provider and end up using shared accounts that are on the same server. It wouldn't make sense for google to prefer one to the other, would it?

Most if not all sites on the same server are going to be using the same name server aren't they?

You could always use a 3rd party service like zoneedit if you are worried about it.

I have a couple of examples of this where my sites are on first page of google and/or yahoo. One example is a .com and a .net site with the same company. I just used different copy on each of the home pages.

Yeah I have 2 domains on the first page for a certain keyword, hosted with the same company, so it can be done.
