What I'm looking for is a way to have complete, continuous and reliable anonymity and I will pay almost any price to get it.

I currently make a full-time living online - this IS my job, so I can afford to pay for the anonymity if it truly exists because it will pay high ROI dividends.

However, I'm confused about the differences/pros/cons of VPNs vs. Socks vs. Proxy.

I can't find a thread here (or on the search engines) that talks about all of them at the same time. So I'm having real trouble making a true "apples to apples" comparison. I don't understand which one fits the bill for what I need.

Here's my "ideal" setup:

-I'm anonymous (a website/SE/whatever can't track me back to my ISP and my real identity name/address)
-My net speed is still fast (it doesn't need to be as fast as my broadband, but I'm not going to put up with just 50kb either)
-I can choose my IP address - or have at least some general control over it. (I want to create a bunch of Web2.0 properties and have them actually stay up. I figure the best way to do that is to make sure that each time I log into my respective accounts as "john" and "dick" and "mary" that each time I come back its from a similar/identical IP - makes the traffic look natural).

Sorry for long winded post but this is very important to me. Plus, I figure many other people have to be wondering the same thing. I guess this is a two part question:

1.) Explain the main attributes of VPNs, Proxys, and SOCKS - pros/cons
2.) Which one of these is best (considering price is no concern) for me to accomplish what I want?

I'm going to end my own thread here because this has been addressed before...I just hadn't found the threads yet. It looks like justone is the go-to-guy on this stuff. If you're interested in what I talked about here just look for thread started by him. His service is called cloakfish
