If forum participants copy and paste articles onto a forum and COMMENT on the stuff pasted, will this kill the SEO of the forum?

This is an interesting question, @blackbeans. From the vantage point of plagiarism checkers like Copyscape, surely, copied and pasted articles will be interpreted as a plagiarism issue. What I am not sure of is if there's an exemption in a forum-like setting. I'm keen to know the answer for this, too.

I see this quite a bit on many types of forums.

Yeah, it is basically copying and pasting on forums and I was wondering if it put a cramp on their SERPS.

I know it would be a DEATH SENTENCE for blogs/authority sites, that's why ORIGINAL CONTENT are needed for those platforms.

However, for forums, there seems to be an exception.

Interested to see what people have to say about this...

A competitor of mine copy/pastes their entire website for every country.

    Eg. ____.ca ______.co.uk
And they rank instantly for the search terms because each of their websites are linking to each other.

They seem to have no penalty of "copied" content.

Do you mean they make a site that is in a different language?

Or just a .CA site, a .CH site, and a .COM site that are all the exact same?

If the forum is a big one like BHW, then it will not be much of an issue. On the other hand, if it is a new forum then too much duplicate content will not be that good.

Literally just copy/paste the site and change the dollars to that country currency.
The sites are instantly rank top 3 because of local domain/local hosting & links.

It makes sense, you can't rank a US site in Google Israel, it just won't happen. You won't even appear on the search engines for it.

For instance, I rank in Google Australia with a .au domain - Same link building technique & same urls.

    G Australia: #12 - #4
    G US: #82 - #78

    US barely moves.

In my experience Google finds information based on your geolocation & offers information which other people in your local area are using, which I assume is why they don't get a penatly in Google Uk & Google Ca. Because it is like it doesn't even exist.

I don't think it will kill or affect the forum. Becuase I have seen many questions in BHW itself which is asked previously in many other forums.

I think copying and pasting content in a forum doesn't kill its SEO.
