    Eample:

    Main domain:fakewebsitedesignservice.com
    Secondary domain: unrelatedvideogamestuff.com

301 the secondary domain to: fakewebsitedesignservice/videogames

The /videogames will not have any links coming from the main domain. Basically just cutting costs on hosting. I know its preferred to get another hosting account specific for the second domain, but just curious if this setup will mess with search engine rankings for either site.

You want to pass the whole domain to a post(page), right?
Is the secondary domain ranking for a keyword.
It will pass around 90% of the link juice, no doubt.
But why the post don't have a link from the main page?
It will sure help the post rank higher.

Because the two sites are completely unrelated and they will be in different niches. Passing link juice for something unrelated will not be helpful.

Anyway, just got a second hosting instead.

It should be fine, if the domain you're using to Redirect has Good Metrics, Isn't penalized and has some power.

There shouldnt be any problem. You can redirect a good domain to any page of your existing domain.
