Hi all, wich forum do you think is best?

vBulletin, IPB, phpbb, etc

?

I use smf, as it's the least intensive on the server and have found phpbb a pain in the arse. I have considered vB before, but following some discussions with someone, he explained smf was more efficient and is free, so went with that.

No doubt this is much like the old Windows/Mac debate, there's no winner just a load of people who know which is best and all tell each other repeatedly.

To be completely honest, they're all much of a muchness.

Yes I got a phpbb forum right now but I don't like it very much and I saw allot of sites use vBull, but I am now looking at the site of smf.

So for you SMF is a yes?

Thanks for your reply!

i use phpbb i didnt think it was hard, but for me, it was the first one i ever heard about so thats the only reason i use it.

might try SMF if your claims about less server usage is true.

I used SMF for 1 month and swtiched to PHPBB, then after 2 years switched to Vbulletin.
VB is the best by far but their user interface sucks big time and it is pricy.

wat script is BHW Made out of im trying to start a seo forum mayb i could affiliate wit bhw im trying to start a freemason seo type forum somebody needs to control the internet or influence people's thinkings :1:

I say vBulletin would be your best bet. I have used punbb,vBulletin, and phpbb. With vBulletin, I have had the least amount of problems, but that could just be me.

I noticed that BHW and WF both use the same forum software. That tells me that this software has to be strong. Does anyone know the url of this forums software?

SMF is amazing. It's free, TONS of free themes, TONS of free mods, great support, and it is less server intensive. I've used it for years and have no complaints.

Vbulletin is by far the most popular and also has the most addons for customizing. However, if you are going to use a nulled version of vbulletin you really have to watch it because they really pursue piracy. SMF is free and it is actually decent.

Most popular Premium forum software: vBulletin
Most popular free forum software: SMF

vBulletin is definitely by far my favourite. I just can't use the others, get annoyed with them. If I had to choose a second/free favourite it would be MyBB though.

kevinfoster, here is the website for vBulletin; http://www.vbulletin.com/

Thanks for all the reply's guys I just installed SMF on my hosting checking it out right now :)

and vBull is very pricy yes :o

If you want to make a big community you should go for vBulletin because of the features it has and it has lots and lots of mods and themes .

If you are low on money you should try mybb, witch it`s vbulletin`s lil brother and it`s good too .

Both are easy to modify, theme etc .

PS: BHW uses vbulletin with custom mods i think !

If you are on a tight budget, go for SMF. It's the best free forum software around.

Otherwise, go for vBulletin. It's worth the money.

How is smf integration with wordpress? Anyone have experiences?

I like phpBB3, because the the authentication module makes it (somewhat) easy to replace the internal authentication module with an external one. It makes it very easy, for instance, to allow all gm4il users to authenticate their gm4il id, and use that for the forum. It also makes it easy to integrate with 3rd party payment processors, to manage a for pay forum.

That being said, vBulletin is by far the best solution, out of the box, for running truly large forums, IMHO.

SMF is nice, but I think that there are licensing problems with it that make it hard for third party developers to integrate SMF with other platforms, and while many sites merely need a standalone forum, many other sites want to use the forum as one part of a larger site.
