This is written for those of you who do SEO, but are having a hard time getting clients: I've been on BHW for a while now, and like most of us here, I spend a lot of time at my computer. I've always been pretty active, so I work out regularly, which is a great way to relieve stress, keep fit, and increase my lifespan (hopefully!). Still, being in IM has made me a bit more of a loner than I've ever been. I've got a boatload of education, so I've spent a good part of my adult life in college or in an office setting, where there are tons of people to interact with. Once I quit my job a few years ago to pursue IM, I found it difficult to kindle new friendships, but I still hang out with the crew a couple times a month, so it isn't too bad. However, what I've noticed in my business is that when I accept invitations to parties, community events, etc., that I almost always meet someone who is really interested in SEO. I meet a ton of business owners, but I'm not pushy...I just learn more about their business and sometimes I'll exchange cards (seriously, get some decent business cards...mine are super premium, and always get a 'wow' from people). Anyway, you'd be surprised by how many contracts I've landed by just going to events and getting to know other people. I'm trying to make a promise to myself that I'll meet up with new people at least 2x/month, which is a pretty easy goal for most of us to reach. Take them out to lunch, invite them to your parties, introduce them to people you know...just be a human being without (much of) an agenda, and you'll find there is LOTS of business out there for the taking. All you have to do is get away from your computer.
