So yesterday a brick and mortar client tells me her competition just hired an SEO guy. I'm like so...

Today on her iphone her competition is everywhere on every search term she looks above her. Calls me complaining that how did they do this and overnight no less...

So, I looked on my computer, Wifes computer, Phones (non iphone) a buddies phone and we don't see it. I drove down the road and physically exam her results and sure as shit they are there...

Does anyone know why this person's phone specifically be picking up a competitions site. I know she looks at them all the time but this is causing her to question my results for her....

Is there anything I can do to the phone? We erased history...

I don't have an iphone, but if it is anything like the way results are displayed through a browser, google adjusts the results that are displayed depending on your history. The history it uses is not stored on your computer, but in your google account. Log her out of her google account and see if that makes a difference. Maybe someone with an iphone will elaborate from experience. The fact that she is constantly looking at their site is probably what is doing it.

Mobile results can be quite different to normal connections. Criteria such as page load times are given far more weighting.

Google also seems to manipulate search based upon the user even when not logged in. I'm not entirely sure what you can do to clear results on the iphone. Try logging in to a clean Google account on the phone, that might help.

If she has Google Chrome as a browser, click the tool button at the top right and 'Open new incognito window' and perform the search in there. It is meant to show unbiased results, I think.

As she gets her mail in google, I know she will want her account live. So try logging into your gmail and erasing history. Not only what is stored on phone...

    Will give it a try..

It could be some form of mobile retargeting. If she has visited the competitors website on her phone she now has a cookie on her phone that remembers that. So the next time she comes across a google adspace whether it be search or the ad network she is going to be targeted by the competitors ad. Try visiting your competitors website on your phone and see if it does the trick.

I'm not sure about mobile but try add the string search?q=keyword+keyword2&pws=0 to get rid of any personalised results as that is what it sounds like

Its gotta have to do with her history. She's probably been checking out the competition on her iPhone
