Why would an authority anchor link not give a boost?

Any reason? For example a link from a highly trusted news site. Would getting a link to that article possibly boost it?

Could it be Google may delay link benefits for weeks or even months? I once saw someone posted a patent by Google that showed links could take up to 3 months to give a site a boost. Any ideas?

Maybe the link is not indexed by Google?

Is that a contextual link from the article? check the SERP of the article , if it doesn't rank in top 100 for your keywords, it's not powerful at all.

My keywords are in top 20, this keyword is in position 16 moving back and forth a space or two sometimes. The links were also indexed by Google as they came up when I searched the title. They are contextual links too. One of my keywords is also around position 9. I think it could be strong competition. I imagine a penalty wouldn't keep you in top 15 positions so I guess we may need to keep building links and see how things progress.

What are you expecting off one link? If you had a homepage link off a good site, maybe so. But I guess you are on about some inner link.

Was curious I guess how much an authority link can boost sites. I'd imagine overtime it helps tho to have a link profile with 'trustworthy' sites in addition to PBN's. For editorial links I'm working on getting it'll be focused more to the homepage and our PBN's are also mostly linked to our home page which helped us get some of our ranking to where it is now.

Not an index page/home page link perhaps? Only thing I can conclude with your info brother. Confused, if you define "authority link" we both might have a different view. DA20+ / PA 20+ home page link won't give much of a boost for "pay day loans" top 10 in big G, double DA/PA numbers @ 40 each and I'll definitely call it an authority link, at least on my end. Like PR4 vs PR7, PR4 home page link might be worthless depending your top 10 Google competition.

By authority link I'm talking the site has a trust and citation flow of 37 to 43.

Third party metrics do not authority make.

One decent link by itself might not make a difference. And it's certainly not the right mindset to have with SEO. If it's a legit authority link then leave it be and if it helps in the future great.

The only time I'll monitor the effects of one individual link is if I'm testing something new. If it has a negative result in the future I want to be able to remove it and see if rankings increase again. If you don't think it's a bad link likely to harm your rankings then forget it and move on to building the next.

The link juice is not passed instantly, it takes time.
