Why not close giveaway threads where the person stops the service?

    Hi,

I have been seeing this for quite some time. Some people often start giveaway threads, and then don't really provide anything, or discontinue the service, and the thread goes on and on with people asking for it without realizing that the provider isn't doing it anymore.
If its only about few days of no response from the provider, then that's fine. But sometimes it gets stretched too long.

One such example is this thread:
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...es/413666-get-free-600-twitter-followers.html
It has 746 replies at the moment, and I'm pretty much sure the OP had left very soon after starting the thread, he has only 1 post in that thread other than first post. Also his last post in this forum dates back to 18th March, means 2 months back.
I see this thread in the home page everyday, and many times, means members here are still posting in it. This is kinda useless, since you don't want to see such threads almost every time on the home page. I think such threads should rather be closed. I think I had once reported it too, but no one seems to have done anything.

And I'm not talking about the above mentioned thread only, there are many such threads.

    Please look into the matter.

    Regards

These threads can only be closed with the help of the community reporting that they are dead. However, easier said than done, because how do we know if a thread is truly dead or not, does it just come down to opinion?

I agree that it would be better to close said threads, but you can't blame the mods for letting some things slip through their net (im not saying you blame the mods).

Do you realise how much work would be involved monitoring giveaway threads and then closing them when they are "done"? It's usually far too subjective and considering the amount of moderation required for a forum this size, it's really not practical to police.

The OP can always close their own thread, most people just choose not to.

Yes I certainly realize that the mods have some huge task here. And I appreciate the work they do.
I only mean this for threads where it becomes just too obvious that they are dead, like the one I mentioned. There are not hundreds of them, may be only a few. So may be a 15 minutes work, that can clean up some useless stuff from this place.

Quick word of advice to the OP. The MODS have things going on in their life other than cleaning up old threads.

When there are pressing issues to attend to...they are there. But they have other work, approving BSTs, Shitlists, personal lives, etc. to attend to. They do not have the time to monitor all these threads.

Also I don't have the time to count but I can pretty much guarantee that there are more than a few.

At least someone(BigBuddy) understands what I mean.

joshweaver9, please. I don't need that advice. I just gave a suggestion, I'm not complaining anything. Don't try to paint this as a blame thread.

@illfounded21, yes. I have no problems doing such a work. Any work that makes a place somewhat better is acceptable to me. But of course, I don't think I'm old or reputed enough to be handed over a moderator's job.

Great idea OP. It's very annoying to see threads like that go on for pages. Report the thread, mod removes it, case closed, if you're a donor which I believe you are.

Threads are closed only if reported by donors?
Nope mate, I'm not one :( But I do report them of course.
