Why is there a gold rush for deleted high PR Tumblr blogs?

    Hello guys,

I am new to the deleted Tumblr game. I have registered over 50 high PR tumblrs till now (almost all with separate accounts and separate IPs). I have compiled a list of another 300 or so deleted high PR tumblrs (PR 2, 3, 4, 5) which I have found and am gradually registering. Yesterday, I had got a massive deleted and available tumblr list with over 300 PR2 + PR3 + PR4 + PR5 (240 or so PR2 alone) available as I checked yesterday. I have not checked the PR1s availability but I would probably have more than a thousand easily with PR1 combined. So, I thought that it would be too much of a pain to register them in one go and I would divide the tumblr registrations over the next few days. I also took out the PA, DA, Facebook, Twitter, G+ etc. of the list to compare the best ones overall. It nearly took a day to find the best tumblrs from the list by checking PA, Backlink Profile, Social metrics etc. and to mark them out.

And today as I was getting ready to register them, many of the best ones are fcking gone and already registered. It has hardly been a day and almost half of the PR4 tumblrs are gone. Now, I am left with PR3 and PR2 mostly and I haven't yet checked them (hopefully at least half have remained). I also found a few PR2 taken as I was about to register. So, there seems to be a gold rush for dead tumblrs. Why is it so? I was planning to gradually use them side by side to push some link juice to my websites. But most posts here at BHW claim that they do not provide much juice anymore. So, why is there such a rush for registering expired tumblrs? What do you do with those? It seems there are a lot of people active in the expired tumblrs game.

When I checked most of the tumblrs, it seems that their backlinks profile is not something to be proud of. A few of them have really good link profiles like huffingtonpost, guardian, NYT, buzzfeed etc. but many of them are just crap PR with only internal nofollow links from other tumblrs. I am not sure how they got such high PRs with such backlink profiles. So, how and why will they push link juice to your money sites.

I also found a few tumblrs with spammy backlinks but with PA of 60 or so. Are they of any benefit?

If somebody especially a senior member can explain me the tumblr game and how you make use of the expired tumblrs, I would highly appreciate it. You can also send me the idea via PM. If I like the idea, I would also gift you 2 PR3 and 5 PR2 tumblrs (I will provide the names and you would need to register them yourselves).

EDIT: I posted 50 PR2 tumblrs in the Giveaway/Freebies forum as I have just too many to register and probably wont register them.

There is no specific "rush" for expired Tumblr, all those got registered because a popular site made a tutorial how to find and register them real easy. So I'm guessing a lot of people went ahead and mass regisered all the good ones. As to what to use them for - a small web 2.0 PBN network is one of the better choices.

There isn't a new rush. There just have always been people scraping/searching. If you find one, the key is to register it immediately. I've ranked sites with a backlink profile solely consisting of tumblr links, so they hold some value. I think the best way is to get some really good ones, create links, but then put the blogs on a bot on autopilot so they continue to grow their PA/PR.

Hi mate. I have a couple of questions, hope it's not too much of a hassle for you. :)
So, you've managed to rank a website with ONLY tumblr links? How hard was the keyword? How many tumblrs? And what about the content (how many words/unique)?

Plenty of content, but basically I didn't just throw high PR tumblr links at it, the site was a tumblr gallery site, so naturally all the backlinks came from tumblr, it became really popular and accrued 90k backlinks from tumblr since it was constantly getting reblogged. That alone took it from a fresh domain to PA/DA of nearly 40. It still ranks today for some really odd keywords (it wasn't too optimized for SEO), but its URL got banned from Tumblr unfortunately, not removed, but you just can't make posts with that domain anymore.

I must have registered several thousand of expired Tumblr domains over the course of two or three years...they work for low competition keywords...what I've noticed is they don't do shit for somewhat competitive ones.

They are fool's gold, OP. That's why they are popular.

Oh, I see. That is a bit different from what I had in mind. But it is still a valuable information. Thanks man!

I would not buy any high pr tumblr blog being sold here because I personally scrape tumblrs and 99.99% of them are shit.

Out of 1 million UNIQUE tumblrs I only find 3-6 QUALITY web 2.0s and I find THOUSANDS with pr 1+, you can find PR 4 tumblrs easy too but they are useless if you look at the link profile.

I would suggest you scrape and find your own.

Fresh tumblrs are as easy to build up as expired. Tumblrs are great for seo as long as the juice flows towards a tumblr site, but the other way around it just does not work as well.

The only reason why an expired tumblr would be of value was if it still had a lot of inbound links from reblogs imho.

I think perhaps I'm missing a critical component. I found 2 expired tumblrs which are great for my niche, but when I try to register the name, it says the name is taken...even though tumblr returns a 'page not found' error on the expired page. Could anyone offer me the workaround for this? Thank you!

It's not enough to find tumblrs that are 404.
You need to find those that are deleted by their owner.
In your case, you most likely found banned tumblrs (which will never be available again).

There is no software that I know of anywhere that can absolutely confirm if the tumblr is available or not. The only way to be 100% sure that a Tumblr is available or not is manual check in the last step as far as I know.

    1. You answered your own question perfectly.
    2. Do NOT believe everything you see/hear on BHW. Test for yourself to find out for sure.

I like the idea and did a raid on another blog network earlier today for several PA40+ blogs with 20-30 linking domains.

The question is how I best use them since I've only got one authority site (don't want more) and wouldn't really benefit from creating fake blogs linking to my sites. Instead, I'm considering creating one paged domains with a long article and a link to some long tail page that usually have problems getting links. Would that be the best use?
