Why is it so slow?

Alright so I opened a twitter a few days ago. I use the Free TweetAttacks to add people. I added people that liked some "Freestuff" page as I was gonna promote freebies and my freebie blog.
I added about 745 people in two-three days, and I am still only at 25 followers...

So if we now disregard any specific niche, what's the easiest way to get follows? Who should you follow and such?

Probably because you need to be on Twitter.
