since beginning of June, I have been trying to hire someone. every time i post a job, a bunch of retards who dont even read the ad respond. I filter the ones who didnt read the ad vs the ones who did read it. at this point, like 3 or 4 potential candidates remain.
so I give them a test task to complete to make sure they know what they are doing. 2 disappear and i never hear back. 1 or 2 will do it, but completely miss my instructions.
makes me want to pull my hair out.
I would rather do the work myself than waste my time with this.

I put my e-mail in the ad, so it doesn't get flagged yourname[@]domain[dot].com. Then put clear instructions on what to e-mail me back. Been getting a lot of people sending me e-mails, the trick is to invite as many people as possible, then shift through them. But yeah odesk is pretty bad in general. I usually just mass contact 100-200 firms and freelancers and shift through them all when they e-mail me back, takes an hour to do that, just copy and paste message. Found someone for my project finally, it's been 5 months!

With any platform like Odesk, there are a couple of practical things you have to consider and do to be successful:

    1. you have to play the numbers game - 100 to 1 seems to be the odds of finding someone that is amazing, but you start with 100, take those down to 10 and then your 1. With that said, you should always have a backup in case you lose the star.

    2. You need to have a vetting system in place so that you not only find someone that can do the work, but is reliable to complete the work. The reality though is that the more skilled and reliable the person, the more you may have to pay... but in the end the extra cost for a highly skilled, reliable worker is worth it!

    3. Constantly looks for more talent... The idea being, if your business is growing you should continually look for higher performing talent to replace any low performers.

In the end, it can be well worth it to outsource via places like Odesk.

    Hope this helps!

The obvious answer is the money. Triple what you are offering and see what quality shows up.
