Why is Google indexing certain pages on my site like this?

Certain keywords that I was ranking for say "black hat" the pages were indexing properly on page 1 (site.com/black-hat/) for example. Now even though I haven't done anything, the pages rank lower (page 3), and Google is indexing my tags instead (site.com/tag/black-hat/). I haven't done any link building for these pages.

Why is this happening, and how can I fix this (if possible)?

Probably because there are more internal links on your site that point to the tags.
You can disallow /tag/ indexing in robots.txt.

It sometimes depend on theme as well, are you using default wordpress theme?

Or you can also install plugin to noindex your tags.
