    Hello Folks,

I am WordPress freelancer since 2008. I've made my first money online in 2010. About skills, I can't call myself an expert, but I can handle a decent WordPress project, even when we talk about an WordPress Online Store.

This year, at least until now, is a real mess. I've made just 1 sale in 5 MONTH. Daily, I send tens of job proposals/bids/etc on the freelancing websites ( I use 4 of the biggest from the world ) without any result. The clients don't give too much money for the projects ( $XX, where the max. is about $40-$50 - THE MAXIMUM ), and when I see a client which give over $100, someone comes with a $12-$25 BID and destroy everything. Don't understand me wrong... I can work for little money, but if a client ( and those kind of clients exists ) wants more and more, and I say to him/her "Stop" and he give me unfavorable rating, it is not good for my rank, which I've build in years of work.

For example, in my first year of freelancing, I've met this type of person ( In this case, as I remember, the job was for resizing some pictures - batch process ). After I've finished the job, he ask me for more, but I've not accepted. He gave me 1 star from 5. Why I said this story? Because after a lot of years ( this year ) and after of tens of "5 stars reviews", a potential client of mine tells me that she don't accept my proposal because I have negative rating ( 1 Fuc**ng negativ review, and a discutable one. ).

I also have a WordPress Freelancer website, with professional design and .com premium domain name ( even the 2 names are from the niche ). I've get a few UV/day, but I've also get a lot of questions about "How to" and "If I" and so... But none of those guys, after hours of discussion, don't buy anything. They want, if it is possible, all for free.

For example, yesterday I've received a question from a guy like this, and he told me that he needs to speed up his website, arrange the widgets, etc . . My first question, after I've seen his website was :"Do you have license for this theme" and he respond..."No, it's nulled". I've ask him where he host his website and he told me that he host on a free server (DOH!). I've ask him the budget, and he told me "$5, no more!". After it, I told him that first of all, he needs to buy a license for the theme, because the creator of it paid a lot of time and work to create it, and after, if he wants quality, he needs a paid server, at least a shared one ( I couldn't recommend him VPS .. ). Btw, he has a News website, or something like that... After I've told him this, he didn't respond me ( and I don't think he will.. ).

I've didn't change anything from what I've did in the past: The prices are the same, the type of discussion is the same, everything is like in the time when I've made money.

My question is: Where to find decent people for working? Where to find projects? Where to find, what I've had in the last years? It seems that everything goes in nowhere

    What I do wrong?!

You're aiming too low. Too low pay. If you can build a site for $50 you can definitely spend more time on them and even rank them yourself and drive some affiliate sales.
There's a lot more to Internet Marketing than building sites for other people. Build your own sites or try exploring CPA. Build up your own revenue streams without having to depend on anyone else.

You seem to be quite shocked with your failures to convert, just let them go.
The problem you have is either you introduce yourself wrong, or you apply to the wrong offer, or there is a lack of a killing / unique skill that make you stand out.

Why sticking to these platoforms if you don't convert them into customers? at the current state it looks like a pure loss of time / energy and draining out your motivation. Change the way your approach them, Go local, develop plugins, find beginners webmaster forums, study and understand your market and propose a service about it with a greater understanding.
Cheaper ? Maybe. Unless you do something unique

    Exactly what Cryogenesis said.
You see yourself just as just a "freelancer".
Instead work on building a business agency, with a nice portfolio, recent clients, a blog, get connected on LinkedIn/Twitter/StackOverflow...
If you want to make serious money, start doing serious work - instead of begging on freelancer sites.

    Good luck.

Negative reviews will kill you on those freelancer sites. It might be useful to hire yourself from a different account and to give yourself a few favorable reviews. In order to avoid negative reviews, online what you'll do clearly in the beginning, so the client cannot ask for more. Additioanlly, you should keep in mind that more and more people are learning WordPress, so the competition will keep rising and the prices will keep going down and on top of it all, WordPress itself keeps getting upgraded so it's easier to work with and most people get by without needing to hire a freelancer. If you're good enough, I would suggest developing your own themes and plugins to sell. If you don't have the skills to do so, use your downtime from freelancing to expand your abilities because if you don't, you'll fall behind the times.

    ^ What he said.

I see so many people with negative reviews I just wont hire. One guy FROM BLACK HAT WORLD that did a job for me was so pissed off because I gave him 4.75 stars. The reason I did was because he had 2 links wrong in the post he made and never fixed it.

I even tipped the dude $15 then he went all ape shit on me for not giving him 5 stars. like wtf, do 5 star work get 5 stars.

What else are you doing to promote yourself? Do you have testimonials that you can get from previous clients as well?

Everyone here has given plenty of solid advice. Most importantly is to get off the freelancer websites. That is exactly what people are hoping to get when they go there...free work. Another key point made by HostStage is that you need to provide a unique service. Website building services are becoming less and less sought after since the information about building a Wordpress site and getting it up and running is readily available. Most people are finding a simple video or tutorial and then doing it themselves. Competition in this niche is also pretty high so you will be required to differentiate yourself and your service from others.

Since you already have a website where you sell these services, focus on that. Like LoftPower stated, use testimonials on your website. Since people are searching for information and/or videos on creating their own Wordpress websites and eCommerce stores, use the power of Google search to find out exactly what it is people are typing into their search bar and looking for. Provide videos and digital products downloads(ebooks, newsletters, freebies, etc.) on your site and get these visitors to give you an email. Setup your email autoresponder to put these targeted visitors into a sales funnel and SELL your services. Show people how easy it is to build a simple website but SELL them on how they can make it better - for a small price of course.

Most importantly, don't give up and don't get discouraged. This is a prime opportunity for you since you recognize that your business needs to evolve in order to survive. Work hard at this and you will succeed. Continue to proceed with your website building business as it is and you will become the next dinosaur. Good Luck OP!

This is true, and your experience in freelancing clearly demonstrates that you are neither a freelancer nor an entrepreneur, so you probably should consider what cryogenesis has pointed out and look for other projects you run for yourself which can bring monetary returns. Your story clearly illustrates that you are simply trying to do the wrong things online for your personal nature, likes and interests, and particularly your overall skill set.

Years? You spent years on a completely unsuccessful business and model, and now you feel the frustration. It speaks for itself. Time for new ideas, and new projects.

Of course he didn't reply. It's not your job to lecture clients on the morality of pirating software. I think one of your problems might be your pitch.

Your second problem, as others have mentioned, is where you're looking for leads. Stay away from websites that require you to sign up and submit a proposal and compete with 100 other people on a $30 job.

Look for places you can talk to people directly. Alternatively, buy yourself a suit and go schedule a meeting with the manager of a local restaurant or accounting firm, etc.

    1. People just assume you're a total beginner because of your rates.
    2. Your prices attract the shittiest type of client imaginable.

Not everyone's looking for the cheapest contractor. They need somebody who's competent, responsive and able to communicate well in english, even if that costs more.

Create and give more value to those businesses, offer them more services not just telling them to build a mediocre site.

Give results and they will gladly give you money every month.
