Why domain prices keep increasing?

Before 2020, I remember new domains and renewals were under $10

But now, every renewal is like $16 and keeps me wondering how best to make of my domain inventory

I do recall in the beginning (1999) the domain prices at godaddy were like $35. Then newcomers came in [name namecheap] and the prices were like under $10. But now they are creeping back up.

Same as the rest of the stuff we buy, everything goes up with time.
 
Stuff becomes more valuable, so the price increases.

I think the reason why domain name prices have increased is because domain names are rare. Domain names are unique and limited. Many valuable domain names have been registered or occupied. If you want one, you will have to spend a huge amount of money. In addition, in recent years, the Internet has developed rapidly, and the demand for the Internet has continued to grow, which has also prompted the development of the domain name industry.
 
Some registrars offer big discounts on initial registration and then hit you with elevated renewal rates.
 
cost of living going up - tax going up, wages going up,

as soon as i put my services and ecommerce products up, fookers don't pay up... ;)
