I personally would have to guess that wordpress has become so popular and large that google and other larger serach engines have in the algorithms provisions to search more frequently and faster when related to Larger sites. You can find the same thing with Social networking sites.

spiders will hit any site that's updated often (like a blog) more frequently than a static site.

I'm currently doing kind of a test, and have set up 2 similar websites about the same niche keyword. One as a regular website created with wordpress, and the other as a wordpress.com blog.

So far I'm really disappointed with the wordpress.com blog. After 4 days, it only shows 2 backlinks, while the other website already shows around 30. I have done the exact same thing to both: submitted them to digg and other social bookmarking websites, and commented on many blogs (with automatic commenting software). Even digg backlinks, which usually show within hours, don't show yet for the wordpress.com blog.

Does anybody else have experience with wordpress.com blogs? Are they 'slow' to get indexed, or no good at all for SEO?

Ok, my wordpress.com blog lasted for about 1 week, before it was deleted by Wordpress because of my affiliate links for violation of their terms....

Lesson learned: do not waste time and set up wordpress.com blog with affiliate links... use blogger, but not wordpress.com....
