Why does Facebook force me to be searchable by email and phone number?

[IMG] This is f*cking ridiculous. I would like to register an username for my brand (facebook.com/mybrandusernamehere) so it looks better than facebook.com/pages/mybrandusernamehere Anyway, the thing is, stupid Mark Zuckerberg wants that my site can be searched by anyone that owns my phone number. Can you believe it? It's the same phone number I use normally for friends, whatsapp etc, and I want no one to find out about this page. I can easily make a new email address, but phone number is a problem. I can't get a prepaid card only for this, it feels like a waste of time and money. Is there a way to have some privacy anymore with Facebook? what a sh*tty website. I wish it crashed so I wouldn't need to move traffic over there. Some guy told me that I can use the number to register the name, then remove the phone once you've registered it, but im not sure if this can be done. Im also paranoid that stupid Facebook may send everyone that has my phone a message saying "X has joined Facebook!" Geez I hate this.

So no one has got a say on this? I would like to register my facebook domain before someone else does... If no one knows a way around it, I guess I spend the 7 dollars on a prepaid card so I can do it with an additional number... geez.

Friends , meaning those who are your friend can only search you.

    Better luck next time!

OP doesn't want his phone number linked to the account regardless.

OP might also be using his personal Facebook to create his brand page, so he doesn't want his friends and family to be able to search for it.

Can you explain how to exactly do it with the google voice thing? It seems it's something that allows you to call, but what phone number im supposed to put on Facebook? is there any tutorial on this? Also, im using a brand new facebook with a different email, I just don't trust FB. I don't want to link my real phone to it that's all.

Google Voice allows you to use a dedicated phone number in any area that forwards messages to your real phone.

I used Google Voice for a Google Maps listing not that long ago without any problems.

Well I think this only works in the USA, so I cant use Google Voice. Anyone knows if when you register a Facebook, people that has your phone number will get some sort of notification? If not, then I will just use my real phone, im too lazy to get a prepaid contract just to do this.

No, no notifications come up when you register with your phone number and someone else knows the number & has an account. You're good to go.

Thanks, but how are you so sure tho? Im just too paranoid. I feel like im going to log in with my FB app on my phone and it's going to send some notifification or something. Like something will eventually happen and they will find out because FB is known for doing some stupid shit in the past regarding lack of privacy. Remember this? https://www.rt.com/news/facebook-email-phone-leak-109/

So anyone is 10000000000000% sure that nothing weird will happen? I just dont want to buy another sim for this, and at the same time I want it to be impossible that other people find out through my phone.

Nobody knows what FB might do now or in the future. They might change things at anytime. Just be safe and get a sim to be sure. Nobody can guarantee what FB might do.

Your friends won't get anything, but your phone number will probably become searchable on fb search so it will link to your brand page anyway.

Are you fucking kidding me? Why would FB leak my phone like that through a Fanpage? there's not even an option that says "make fanpages searchable through my phone" or anything, which I assume it's impossible by default and this only applies for profiles and not fanpages.

Guys, can someone tell me about that? How can your fanpage leak your phone number? This seems nonsense to me.

Someone need to tell me about this. There's no way that you can search a fanpage through a phone number, it's just not possible, that guy must be wrong.
